El Brujo has unveiled the tracklists for the latest episode of his show, 'Work In Progress' episode 7, showcasing guest DJ Calcast. Scientific Sound Asia proudly stands as the premier electronic music radio station in Asia, catering to both regional and international audiences.
El Brujo, whose real name is Robert Milanesi, was born in Italy in 1964. His passion for music ignited at a young age, leading him to immerse himself deeply in its world. By 1994, he had emerged as a key figure in the underground Techno and rave scene in Bologna, Italy, earning recognition as one of its founding fathers.
In 2008, El Brujo marked his debut into the realm of official releases with "Warriors," which was unveiled on the Milan-based label Open Legs. Additionally, his label Jambalay Records made its debut during the opening party in 2010 at Club Geminis in Ibiza, Spain, situated in the vibrant Ibiza harbour.
Following their emergence, both the label and El Brujo rapidly ascended onto the global stage, making a significant impact. Their breakthrough came when the renowned Maya Jane Coles charted El Brujo's track 'Mozambique,' a collaboration with Big Mojo, in her February Chart 2011.
This milestone coincided with El Brujo's inaugural physical CD release, 'Nutty Fellas Are Go,' featuring the track mentioned above. Fast forward to January 2019, El Brujo's release 'Plastic Dreams,' initially launched on Frame Worxx, soared to number 33 in the Beatport Hard Techno Top 100 chart, further solidifying his position as a formidable force in the industry.
EL Brujo has established a notable presence within the music industry, having released tracks on esteemed labels such as Hydraulic, Naked Lunch, Elektrax, Frame Workxx, Lw Recordings, Subwoofer, Sound Dissonance, Physical Techno, and various others. Notably, in May 2022, DJ Rush recognised his talent by charting one of his tracks. "Shit Happens" secured an impressive position at number 10 in the Beatport top 100 for Jackin House.
The distinctive sound of El Brujo remains an enigma, akin to the mysteries of the cosmos itself. His creations transcend conventional boundaries, exhibiting an interstellar quality in their raw essence.
Regardless of the music genre he explores, El Brujo's approach is characterised by innovation. As part of his creative journey, he will curate a monthly guest DJ from his extensive collection of House and Techno producers and artists. These curated radio shows promise to be experimental and feature unreleased Techno tracks, aptly named Work in Progress.
Guest DJ Calcast (second hour).
This week's guest DJ for the second hour is Calcast. Born Eloy Castro, Calcast is an American DJ and producer originally from Santa Ana, California. With a deep reverence for the dance floor, Calcast embodies the role of a humble servant, dedicated to delivering high-energy beats that captivate audiences.
Demonstrating a serious demeanour behind the decks, Calcast masterfully merges genres ranging from Tech House and Techno to Breaks and Drum and Bass, ensuring a dynamic musical experience without boundaries. His involvement with Mad Rhythm since 2004 underscores his commitment and local acclaim, solidifying his reputation through unwavering dedication and grassroots support.
During his tenure as one half of "The Beat Bandidos" duo from 2012 to 2014, Calcast honed his ability to ignite crowds and sustain their energy levels. Transitioning from this dynamic partnership to pursue solo ventures, he has fearlessly delved into diverse musical realms, including Tech House, Techno, Breaks, and Drum and Bass, demonstrating his versatility and passion for pushing musical boundaries.
Beyond his prowess as a DJ, Calcast also shares his own productions and remixes with audiences. His work has garnered attention on renowned labels such as Electrified Mindz, Nerotica Records, Lets Techno, Del Sol, Deep Trauma, Jambalay (It), Frameworkxxx (NL), Maintain Replay (PRT), TUO Records, and his own imprint, Mad Rhythm Records.
Through these releases, Calcast continues to make his mark on the electronic music scene, showcasing his talent and dedication to the craft. From his chart-topping solo release "Sueño con Tech" to his electrifying collaboration with close friend Joe Cozzo on "Dark Sunset," Calcast has consistently delivered captivating music.
With the support of Mad Rhythm and strategic alliances with Fresh Squeezed Productions and The Bass Agency, he has had the privilege of gracing stages alongside some of the industry's biggest names. Among these luminaries are A-Sides, Juan Basshead, Brad Smith, D.O.D (Dealers of Destruction), Agent K, Bella, Ak1200, Desidente, Lo-Hi Stereo, Custom Soldiers, Lo-iQ, Random Movement, Aphrodite, DJ Icey, Code Rising, and Egyptian Lover, to mention just a few.
In early 2023, Calcast embarked on producing events in the suburban Florida locale where he resides. You can catch him at various venues including bars, clubs, and festivals, where he mesmerizes audiences with his signature style, dropping one pulsating bassline at a time.
