Scientific Sound Asia presents the latest episode of Velvety Elements, curated by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As a hub for underground electronic music, DJ culture, and live events, the platform continues to champion artists across Asia and beyond.

Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been active in the electronic music scene since the 1990s. His collection, spanning vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital files, reflects a lifelong dedication to sonic exploration. While his sound has touched on Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout, House music remains the core of his creative identity.

Throughout periods of decline in Portugal’s underground scene, Joshua remained active behind the scenes, organising events and supporting local collaborations to help the culture endure and adapt.

After a break to focus on family life, he returned with renewed energy, first launching Floating Beats, a show known for its melodic and immersive selections, and later Velvety Elements, which highlights refined, groove-driven interpretations of House music.

Recording under aliases such as K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he explores various shades of rhythm and tone, from minimal and percussive to soulful and melodic. In 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings, a label dedicated to his own work and to promoting deep, emotionally resonant House music from emerging artists worldwide.

Velvety Elements 274 opens with Demuir’s AhhHurrrWeGoAgain, laying down a funky house groove to set the tone. Tuccillo’s New World and DJ Pipe’s Whirl Dee follow with smooth Deep House tracks, maintaining a relaxed but head-nodding flow. Damian Rausch and Franck Roger bring warm, classic vibes to the early set, rooted firmly in the ethos of deep house music.

The middle stretch blends refined House with club-focused Deep House. Leo Christopher’s TFL and Milton Jackson & Brian Kage’s Fire Emoji both ride crisp percussion, while Sascha Dive and Aquarius Heaven elevate things with moody vocals and dubby depth. These tracks bridge traditional house music songs with subtle electronic innovations.

In the second half, Nick Holder & Tyrone Solomon’s Ride (Instrumental Mix) is a standout, reflecting Holder’s iconic Toronto roots in deep house. Slugg’s She Want My brings a minimalist edge, dipping into Minimal / Deep Tech territory with stripped-back beats and punchy swing.

The show closes strong with another Tuccillo gem, Happyness, offering melodic lightness before Undercover Agency’s 2025 Remaster of 2 Is One rounds things off with classic House finesse. This episode highlights the versatility and richness of the deep house genre, with a taste of deep tech and timeless house grooves throughout.
