Bicycle Corporation presents Roots 19 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is the collaboration between Italian DJ and producer Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Their discography spans Tech House, Deep House, melodic techno and Techno.
Marco began his musical work as a DJ and producer in the early 1990s. Shortly afterwards, he started events through the Urban People collective, which became known throughout Italy.
His work led to a residency at Pacha in Egypt and international DJ bookings. That period helped establish the broader international direction of his DJ career.
Growing up in Torino, Italy, Stefano studied percussion, classical piano and drums from an early age. His musical interests included Chopin and West African djembes.
As a teenager, Stefano became increasingly absorbed by DJing and record selection. Electronic music was difficult to find on Italian radio during the 1990s, but those broadcasts helped point him towards a new musical path.
Roots 19 draws on records that inform Bicycle Corporation's electronic music, including funk, disco, soul, Afrobeat, electro, rare groove and hip hop. The programme places those influences alongside a selection of edits, revisions and original recordings.
Africa's A.I.E. Amwana, released through Italoheat, opens with Disco energy. Casbah 73 follows with Love Saves The Day on Glitterbox Recordings, bringing a Nu-Disco angle to the early selection.
Cerrone's Supernature appears in the Barry&Gibbs Edit, retaining the record's prominent rhythmic character. Erotic Drum Band's Action '78 in the Glenn Rivera ReStructure keeps the focus on extended reworked material.
Instant Funk's I Got My Mind Made Up arrives in The Reflex Revision, followed by Michael The Lion featuring Amy Douglas on Funk Train Edit. Together, the two selections bring Funk references into the centre of the programme.
Dogma & the Afro-Cuban Rhythms' Mas Suave, released on Angel Eyes Music Group, introduces House Music to the sequence. DJ Sotofett Meets Abu Sayah's Houran on Fit Sound brings an Oriental selection before DJ Luka Italo Perez's Melody Of Samba in the Flava Mix on Sheeva Records restores the house-led feel.
CHIC's Dance, Dance, Dance returns the set to disco, while Herb Alpert's Rise in The Reflex Revision introduces a Jazz Music reference. Orlando Riva Sound's Body To Body Boogie in the Late Nite Tuff Guy Edit follows on Salsoul Records, extending the edit-focused approach.
Claudja Barry's Love For The Sake Of Love in the Mike Mauro Remix leads into Edwin Starr's Get Up Whirlpool, balancing disco with R&B. James Brown's Funky Drummer in the Bonus Beat Reprise and KC & The Sunshine Band's Black Water Gold bring the programme to a close through funk and pop.
