Bicycle Corporation guest DJ Terence C for Electronic Roots 148

Terence C joins Bicycle Corporation as guest DJ for episode 148 of Electronic Roots on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter, publishing music news while connecting underground artists and listeners across the region and internationally.

Bicycle Corporation is the long-running collaboration between Italian DJ and producer Marco Mei and classically trained musician Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Together, they combine extensive experience in electronic music, drawing on House, Techno and live musicianship to shape a project built around club culture, production and musical versatility.

Marco Mei began DJing during the formative years of Italy's underground electronic movement. Through his involvement with the Urban People collective, he became part of a generation developing independent House and Techno culture before expanding his career through residencies and performances across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Years spent working across different clubs and audiences gave Marco a broad approach to selection rather than tying him to one narrow area of electronic music. House remains an important foundation, while deeper grooves, Techno and other club-focused styles regularly move through his sets and radio programmes.

Stefano Ugliano developed his musical foundations through classical studies in piano, percussion and drums before moving towards electronic production. Traditional composition, rhythmic training and an interest in music from different cultures brought another dimension to the project, particularly through arrangement and structure.

Working as 6884, Stefano provides the production-focused counterpart to Marco's long experience behind the decks. That combination allows Bicycle Corporation to connect DJ culture with a more detailed studio approach, giving the project room to move between House, Techno and deeper electronic styles.

Their recorded catalogue reflects that breadth without losing its connection to underground club music. More of their production work can be explored through Bicycle Corporation's Bandcamp, where the relationship between rhythm, arrangement and electronic experimentation is central to the project.

Electronic Roots extends that philosophy into radio, giving Bicycle Corporation a platform for broad selections and international guest artists. The programme is not restricted to a single interpretation of House or Techno, allowing different strands of underground electronic music to sit together across each edition.

Guest appearances are an important part of that format because they introduce different scenes, cities and approaches into the programme. Terence C brings another perspective from Asia's underground electronic music community, complementing Bicycle Corporation's international outlook and long-running connection with club culture across the region.

Episode 148 continues that exchange between resident hosts and guest selectors. Bicycle Corporation's broad musical perspective meets Terence C's contribution in another edition centred on underground electronic music, international collaboration and carefully developed club selections.

Guest DJ Terence C.

DJ Terence C joins Bicycle Corporation as the guest DJ for this edition of Electronic Roots on Scientific Sound Asia. Originally from Malaysia and now based in Shanghai, Terence C has spent more than two decades building a respected reputation within Asia’s underground electronic music community.

Known for technical precision, considered programming and a strong understanding of dancefloor dynamics, he has become an established selector across House Music, Techno and Progressive House. His long involvement with Kuala Lumpur’s club scene helped shape a style built around groove, energy and musical depth rather than short-lived trends.

Terence began his professional DJ career in 1998 under the guidance of DJ Chris Doss, learning through direct experience with equipment and club environments. Early appearances at venues including Cubeat and Globar gave him the foundation to develop his technique and build a profile within Malaysia’s emerging electronic music scene.

A major early opportunity came when he supported David Morales during the House music figure’s first appearance in Malaysia. That booking opened the door to further performances at Movement, Backroom, Nouvo and Atmosphere, helping Terence become increasingly visible within Kuala Lumpur nightlife.

As his profile grew, international bookings followed at venues including Lush in Singapore and Liquid in Ho Chi Minh City. These appearances helped extend his reach beyond Malaysia and connected his sound with wider audiences across Southeast Asia.

Throughout his career, Terence has shared line-ups with internationally recognised artists including David Morales, Fatboy Slim and Pete Tong. His appearances alongside John Digweed, including Digweed’s visits to Malaysia and performances at Zouk Club Kuala Lumpur, also strengthened his association with the deeper and more progressive side of electronic music.

Those bookings were particularly important within Progressive House, where long-form mixing and careful pacing remain central to the music. Terence’s ability to build a set gradually made him well suited to that environment while his wider House and Techno background kept his programming flexible.

In 2005, he co-founded Altered Image alongside Callen Tham and Digital. The multimedia project combined electronic music, turntablism and visual performance, creating a format that extended beyond conventional DJ presentation.

Altered Image later gained wider recognition after winning the Malaysian edition of the Heineken Thirst competition. The project demonstrated Terence’s interest in performance technology and multimedia long before hybrid DJ setups became commonplace across club culture.

Before the pandemic, Terence also co-founded We Love Techno with DJ XU. The event series focused on harder, more direct Techno associated with labels such as Drumcode and Cocoon, giving Kuala Lumpur audiences a regular platform for tougher underground electronic music.

That project added another dimension to his already broad musical background. House and Progressive House remained important foundations, but We Love Techno allowed him to explore more forceful rhythmic structures and the darker end of club music.

In recent years, Terence has continued developing his performance style through hybrid setups combining traditional DJ mixing with Ableton Live integration. This approach gives him additional control over layering, structure and transitions while retaining the instincts developed through decades of conventional club DJing.

His Movement Control mix series documents that side of his work and provides a closer look at his approach to programming. Detailed track selection, technical creativity and long-form progression remain central, showing how technology is used to extend the musical idea rather than replace traditional DJ technique.

Alongside his work behind the decks, Terence remains active in the studio and continues developing original productions. Radio and mix platforms have also provided another outlet for his selections, connecting his work with listeners beyond the clubs where he performs.

His move from Malaysia to Shanghai adds another chapter to a career already strongly connected with different parts of Asia. Rather than being tied to one local scene, Terence C has built a regional identity through Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City and now China.

Electronic Roots 148 with Terence C begins in a spacious, measured fashion as Martinou's "Paean" introduces an Organic House opening before Mustafa Ismaeel and SHEREEN M move into the warmer depths of Deep House with "Past & Present". Tal Fussman's "Parallel Reality" maintains that deeper pull before Mathias Kaden's "Next Wave" brings a more direct House Music groove into the early progression.

Zombies In Miami's remix of Cromby's "Dialogue" and TRENTEMØLLER's "Physical Fraction" tighten the rhythmic focus with Tech House before Kabi and Agustín Ficarra steer the programme decisively towards Progressive House. Christian Smith's "Illusion" and Ian O'Donovan's "Ascent" extend that movement with sustained melodic tension, while D. Diggler's "Number 22" introduces a darker strand of Deep Techno without disrupting the set's carefully controlled flow.

The middle section broadens again as Kabi and Agustín Ficarra return with "Let You Go", followed by Alican's "Blackbox 538", which brings Melodic House and Techno into the mix. Patch Park and Mike Rish then return the focus to progressive movement before Echonomist and Ede's "The Heat" on Rekids shifts back towards house, setting up Booka Shade's extended remix of Beacon and Helsloot with another melodic lift.

Mathias Kaden's "Shelter", Deetron's remix of Daphni's "Fly Away" and Hardt Antoine's "Dreamstate" give the later stages a strong house-led run before Christian Smith's "Golden Point" brings the progressive thread back into focus. Kölsch's remix of Reboot's "Just Hang On" adds the set's sole Peak Time Techno surge, while DCLVIII OFC closes with "Revolution" on Sudbeat Music, completing a wide-ranging session that moves naturally between deep, progressive and more driving electronic forms.

Listen to the live broadcast on Wednesday, August 19th, 2026, from 6 PM to 8 PM Indochina Time (ICT), and hear the replay on Sunday from 6 AM to 8 AM (ICT).
