Bicycle Corporation announce Nick E. Meta for first Foundations show

Bicycle Corporation presents Foundations 8 with guest DJ Nick E. Meta on Scientific Sound Asia, marking his first Foundations show. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, music-news platform and DJ agency connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.

Bicycle Corporation is the Italian collaboration between DJ and producer Marco MEI and Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Marco began DJing and producing in the early 1990s, organising events across Italy with the Urban People crew before gaining a Pacha residency and international DJ bookings.

Born and raised in Torino, Stefano showed an early aptitude for music and studied classical piano, percussion and drums with dedication. He enjoyed Chopin and West African djembe, while the sight of a DJ working a crowd became increasingly compelling during his teenage years.

Electronic beats were difficult to find on Italian radio in the 1990s, yet Stefano's interest in them opened a new chapter that led to Bicycle Corporation. The duo later revisited their earliest tracks and established a Bandcamp page to distribute them.

Bicycle Corporation has released more than fifty productions and remixes across Deep House, Tech House, French House and Techno, including work for Alchemy, Miniatures, WL77, Suka and GrooveTraxx. Marco is based in Taipei, works across a wider South East Asian network, is available for bookings through his DJ agency profile and broadcasts weekly on the radio station.

This week's guest DJ is Nick E. Meta, Nick E. Meta is a DJ originating from Berlin, Germany and now residing in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The famed temples of Angkor Wat are only the start of things to explore in Cambodia.

Phnom-Penh-based DJ couple Sao Sopheak (Cambodia) and Nick E. Meta (Germany) are the masterminds behind one of South-East-Asia’s most acclaimed independent art spaces. Since 2007, their Cambodian-German Cultural Centre, “Meta House” has been contributing actively to the renaissance of Cambodian arts and culture after almost 30 years of civil war.

Before the advent of COVID19, Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh was one of the region’s most liberal party destinations, offering a heady dusk-till-dawn nightlife. Despite ongoing club closures, the Meta House Crew continues at the forefront of the region’s emerging electronica movement, mixing Berlin underground spirit with Asian spirituality.

Nick, who co-founded the Berlin label “D’Vision Netcom” in the early 1990s has been mixing music and producing his tracks for the last 35 years. His recent projects include the live ambient trance performance trio “Friends Electrick” as well as the spoken word project “Airstrip” with UK 'poet noir' John Gartland.

Nick’s partner Sopheak is one of a few female techno DJs in the Kingdom. Behind the decks, they both create seamless dance-floor energy that never stops. During the last 10 years, the Meta House Crew has performed in Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam and Germany.

Nick E Meta opens Foundations Episode 08 far outside a conventional club-house framework with The Orb’s “Little Fluffy Clouds,” bringing an Ambient reference before Beats International adds dub and reggae influence. Duwayne Motley with Tasty Lopez and Divine with Danny Rhys then begin moving the programme towards House Music.

Dragosh’s “Didiracrac” receives Priku’s reconstruction, a version officially classified as Minimal / Deep Tech, before Michael Bibi brings in Tech House with “Garden Of Groove.” Nu Zau, Microlab and Draganeskool maintain the stripped-back club direction as the set develops through minimal and deeper house forms.

Pele and Shawnecy precede Phuarm, Spencer Parker and Ellum before the programme begins opening out again through Skytech, Neytan and DJ Kuba. Evan Sansen and Holger Schwindt lead into Yulia Niko and Dinu’s “Fatima,” with Priku’s remix providing a clear Melodic House and Techno entry.

Joeski, Vakabular, Jerome Sydenham and D-Nox with Gabe carry the middle section across house and contemporary electronic club music before John Acquaviva and Manuel De La Mare. Joeski returns with “Faded,” an explicitly classified tech-house release on Crosstown Rebels, strengthening tech house as one of the episode’s principal categories.

Reset Robot and Mint precede Stardust’s “Music Sounds Better,” bringing a recognisable Disco and classic French-house reference into the later portion of the programme. MFS Observatory, Eddy M., Theos, Mike Newman and Jens Lissat then carry the set back through deeper house, minimal and club-focused material.

Vlad Caia with Cristi Cons and Adrian Mart precede CamelPhat and Cari Golden’s “Freak,” another confirmed tech-house selection. Bassel Darwish follows with “Origin,” which is officially Minimal / Deep Tech, giving Deep Tech House another strong late-set appearance.

Les Bisous introduces another disco-oriented selection before Soren Aalberg, Uto Karem and Hexer move the final section towards tougher electronic material. Chez Damier precedes Boris Brejcha’s “House,” officially classified simply as house, closing a Nick E Meta set that ranges from ambient and dub through minimal, deep tech, tech house, disco and melodic electronic music.
