Anonymous Z presents the playlist for episode 31 of Not So Anonymous on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Anonymous Z is mostly revered in Saigon, Vietnam as a pioneer of Mad Circus parties. He was also the organiser of Bahrain's first underground DJ collective, Glassroom.
Leading a group of misfits from different nationalities, he organised legal parties, after-parties and occasional renegade events that local nightlife remembers as folklore. His motto then was "They tried to bury us, but they forgot we were seeds".
As part of the Banana Hustle crew's tropical events in Ho Chi Minh City, he helped develop the group's distinctive atmosphere. Originally a Techno head, he developed a taste for digging out unusual Afro, House, Disco and Funk records.
He balances those selections with hand-picked Techno and contemporary Indie Dance. His skills as a disc jockey led to appearances at Vietnamese underground venues including Arcan, The Lighthouse, Broma and Vitamin D after-parties.
His non-linear sets are often improvised and shaped by the crowd, combining tense, groovy bass lines with melodic storytelling that plays with emotion. Over time, he has explored world music and the earliest era of Electro.
His selections can move towards trippy, dark Downtempo with tribal and South American influences, or towards darker Leftfield Electro. Other sets bring in Nu-Disco, Electroclash, Wave, New Beat and Dark Disco.
Anonymous Z's Not So Anonymous episode 31 playlist opens with Da Damn Phreak Noiz Phunk's Machinez on Mole Listening Pearls, an Electronica cut. Die Orangen's Der Krautback follows on Malka Tuti Records, bringing the programme into Indie Dance territory.
Errortica's Master Slave, in Anatolian Weapons' Acid Club Remix on Les Yeux Orange, adds an electronic edge before Alex Aguayo's Circuit on Nein Records returns to Indie Dance. Rayko's James Rod remix of Slowmotion Link, released by Spa In Disco, introduces the tracklist's SpaInDisco strand.
Wolfstream's Things Are Bad and Slove, Dombrance and Maud Geffray's instrumental Dombrance remix of Ce Soir Je M'en Vais lead into Cabaret Nocturne's Wrong Tragedy on Factor City. That record brings Peak Time Techno into focus, while Darlyn Vlys' Damon Jee remix of Provocador on Polymath and Aimes' Massimiliano Pagliara remix of We Are Eternal on Wonder Stories restore the Indie Dance emphasis.
Middle Sky Boom and Eliezer's Arthur Johnson Desert Eagle Version of Yamam on La Dame Noir Records is followed by Tiempo De Maldad's Freudenthal remix of Soufi on Nein Records. Chinosynth's Enjanzea2 remix of Dimitry then gives way to Joseeph's Disconnected and Kitschy Kitsch remix of Escandalo, another Nein Records release rooted in Indie Dance.
German Brigante and Thomas Gandey's You'll Never Regret precedes The Organism's Reflection on Disco Halal, where Melodic House and Techno enters the sequence. TERR's Multiverse on Correspondant and Todd Terje's Oh Joy on Olsen Records bring the later stretch back to Indie Dance.
2000 And One closes the confirmed sequence with Butch's remix of Spanish Fly on 100% Pure, a Tech House finish. Mystic Force's Clearlight provides the final selection, leaving the programme on a more open-ended note.
