Ezmun's Cooking With Gas episode 14 is a two-hour selection for Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Cooking With Gas was a weekly dose of all things percussive, groovy and dark, curated by Ezmun. Episode 14 moves through two more hours of club-focused selections, taking a darker tone than the preceding programme.
Ezmun is originally from Cumbria in the United Kingdom and had relocated to Vietnam to develop his ambitions as a DJ and producer. Like many DJs, he started in his bedroom before playing house parties with close friends and cohorts.
In 2019, he made his breakthrough into clubs, playing venues in Manchester, Hanoi, Laos and Ho Chi Minh City. During the Covid period, he temporarily relocated to Melbourne, where he planned to release a weekly show centred on his favourite sounds.
Drawn to the dark, sparse atmosphere of minimal half-time 140s and the loud clatter of percussive leftfield bass, he used these as peaks and troughs within an energetic techno setting. At the time, Ezmun was gaining recognition in Vietnam's underground and hoped to return there.
In the meantime, he intended to explore the Melbourne underground scene and hone his production skills with a view to releasing his own music the following year. Cooking With Gas also gave him space to showcase friends and undiscovered DJs while examining the styles he loved in greater detail.
Ezmun's Cooking With Gas 14 episode opens with Flaminik's That's It before MartinoResi's Alex Sounds remix of El Arabe brings Deep Tech House from Ofrenda Music. Veztax's Valentino Kanzyani remix of Whatzup We, released through Triple Vision Music Group, introduces Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic).
Santiago Bejarno's Aftershow leads into Alverto Maya's Uriah Persie remix of Party Hour on Ofrenda Music. Fer's Da Vid remix of Mind on Optikal follows with Tech House pressure.
Joan Alvarez's Play It and Riven Benavi's Asi Asi keep the early section moving before Dillon Nathaniel's Red Trolley on Big Beat Records brings Bass House weight. Roy Batty and Mike LT's Obscure, released by Kaleydo Beats, then raises the intensity with Peak Time Techno.
Dustycloud's Bold on Confession returns to Bass House before David Arias and Hassio (COL)'s The Moon on SELECTECHouse Label restores the Tech House focus. Uriah Persie's Ghetto, another Ofrenda Music release, brings the sound back towards Deep Tech House.
Joseph Capriati's Psycology on Drumcode begins a more forceful run, followed by Alex Raider's Get Rid Of The Chains on Kaleydo Beats. Popof's No Way on ELEVATE and David Arias and Riven Benavi's Sound Of Gravity on Spazio Sonoro Records hold the set in Peak Time Techno territory before Eyes Faces' Right Now on Claps Records adds another Tech House turn.
Ansome's Clodgy on Mord and Spec X's Don't Do XTC Anymore on Infamous Tracks push the final stretch into tougher techno. Perc and Gazelle Twin's Look What Your Love Has Done To Me on Perc Trax, Ramon Tapia and Vinicus Honorio's Into The Light on ELEVATE, Markantonio and Atroxx's 1965 on AnalyticTrail, Michael Kruck's Flug remix of Dexamethason on MONOTON audio, and Ansome's Kitty on Mord close the programme at full intensity.
