Anonymous Z presents his 11th Scientific Sound Asia show with guest P.E.R.I. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Anonymous Z is mostly famous in Saigon, Vietnam, as the founder of Mad Circus Epic parties. He also founded Glassroom, Bahrain's first underground DJ community, bringing together a group of people from different backgrounds to organise legal and unlicensed parties and after-parties remembered by the local nightlife.
His motto at the time was "They tried to bury us, but they forgot we were seeds". After joining the Banana Hustle crew in its punchy tropical frenzy, he helped develop its distinctive vibe and, having begun as a Techno head, developed a taste for digging Afro, House, Disco and Funk records.
He complements this approach with hand-picked Techno and more recent Indie Dance, while his strong abilities as a selecta brought him to Arcan, The Lighthouse, Broma and Vitamin D after-parties. His non-linear sets are often improvised in response to the dance floor, spanning several styles through tense, groovy basslines and melodic passages that play with emotion.
Guest DJ (second hour) P.E.R.I.
This weeks guest DJ is P.E.R.I, from a young age PE.R.I. had always steered away from the mainstream. At 14, this German-born DJ started listening to the likes of Klaus Schulze and Pink Floyd followed later by The Art of Noise along with other forms of electronica.
PE.R.I.'s passion for the non-mainstream never ceased and in 92’, it eventually led her to take up mixing as an underground DJ. At that point in time, she had unknowingly become one of the first and very few female DJ’s in Germany.
By the time she returned from Berlin her preferences had become heavily influenced by Detroit Techno, a new direction that prompted her as a DJ to focus on underground Techno. She then became an active promoter for several underground movements including the legendary illegal club Neuroserve near Cologne.
The exposure gained from her hard work would eventually give her collaborative opportunities with the iconic Tresor in Berlin. Despite her promising potential to become an industry leader, P.E.R.I. left the House and Techno scene in 2003 for 15 years to explore other musically-unrelated career opportunities.
This was about the time when electronica genres in general, declined in demand and popularity. Up until recently, P.E.R.I relocated to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and in 2018, that once, deep passion for the Techno sound reignited and motivated this DJ to reconnect with the local electronic music community.
Since then, her passion-fueled Techno sets have begun to garner a cult following both locally, and in the international online-radio scene. P.E.R.I. maintains club residencies in several Techno clubs in Kuala Lumpur.
She eventually went also back to her roots as a promoter for her Neuroserve and Neurobot events since April 2019 which are hosted in Malaysias capital. Another milestone is her membership in the Kuala Lumpur based DJ collective Voidrealm which provides the scene with the most non-mainstream vibes one can wish for.
P.E.R.I.’s unique style stands for vibes within Deep and Dark Techno and driving Minimal. She accompanies her sound with a smart and crispy tat of experimental Leftfield nuances.
Anonymous Z's 11th show with guest P.E.R.I. opens with Slikback's Ascension on Hakuna Kulala, bringing a Bass / Club edge to the programme. Limpodisco's James Rod remix of From Disco To The Underground, released through Golden Soul Records, follows with Indie Dance character.
Damon Jee's Empire Of The Sun on Days Of Being Wild introduces Peak Time Techno before Alejandro Molinari's Noche De Berlin on Nein Records returns to Indie Dance. Alda's Pardon Moi remix of Pleasure Bass, issued by Crowhunt Records, keeps that strand in focus.
Eddie Mercury's Andre Vii remix of In Mexico on Electrique Music brings in House Music. DJ T.'s Roland Leesker Acid Strings Edit of Dis on Get Physical Music sits alongside Emmanuel Top's Tone on 541, which introduces Trance (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic).
Ctrl's Modular Framework on Token and Dax J's Imperial Propaganda on Monnom Black establish a raw, deep and hypnotic Techno passage. Their stripped-back pressure gives the middle of the show a firmer, more austere direction.
Avgusto's Carica on Airsound Records, Charles Fenckler's Block on Soma Records and Disk Space's Runtime Error on Disk Space raise the Peak Time Techno intensity. Matt Morra's Second Skin, released on Code Is Law, draws the programme back towards raw, deep and hypnotic Techno.
KAS:ST's Nepal on Materia adds another Peak Time Techno record before Planetary Assault Systems' Born Anchors on Mote Evolver restores the raw, deep and hypnotic Techno focus. Regis closes with Speak To Me on Downwards, leaving the programme in the stark, concentrated territory established by its final records.
