Anonymous Z and guest DJ Manny feature in Not So Anonymous 8 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
For this edition, Anonymous Z invited DJ Manny to take charge of the first hour. Moving between Hip Hop, Electro and world music, DJ Manny has become an increasingly visible figure across the Saigon scene.
His selections are eclectic yet coherent, rooted in rhythm, cultural textures and a distinctive global sensibility. As part of the Banana Hustle crew, he is known for a groovier, more uplifting energy that combines dancefloor instinct with adventurous digging.
A resident of Hazy Lemons, the Sunday gathering at The Lighthouse, he caters to listeners who appreciate the slower side of the beat. His approach favours rare finds, particularly ethnic, tropical and organic influences that feel atmospheric and refreshing.
For this show, DJ Manny presents a deep and melancholic set infused with cumbia rhythms and oriental tonalities. The mood is reflective yet hypnotic, combining traditional elements with contemporary electronic textures.
Responding to his guest’s direction, Anonymous Z follows in the second hour with a more psychedelic interpretation of the hazy aesthetic. His contribution expands the emotional range while keeping a fluid narrative across the mix.
Anonymous Z is best known in Saigon, Vietnam as the founder of the legendary Mad Circus Epic parties, a movement that helped shape the city’s underground nightlife. An organiser of creative mayhem to the core, he also established Bahrain’s first underground DJ collective, Glassroom.
Leading a diverse group of artists and music lovers, he orchestrated official and unofficial parties and after-parties that are still remembered as defining moments in the local scene. Guided by his motto, “They tried to bury us, but they forgot we were seeds,” he later joined the Banana Hustle crew and contributed to its vibrant, tropical and high-energy identity.
Although originally rooted in Techno, Anonymous Z developed a passion for digging across genres, unearthing distinctive records spanning Afro, House, Disco and Funk. He balances this with contemporary Techno and emerging Indie Dance.
His reputation as a sharp and instinctive selector has earned him performances at key underground venues such as Arcan, The Lighthouse, and the legendary Broma and Vitamin D after-parties. His sets are characteristically non-linear and largely improvised, shaped in real time by the dancefloor rather than a fixed structure.
Moving across styles, his sound is defined by tense, groove-driven basslines, cinematic melodies and emotionally charged storytelling that holds the dancefloor from start to finish. That approach provides the context for the contrast between Manny’s first-hour selection and Anonymous Z’s psychedelic second-hour response.
Anonymous Z and DJ Manny’s Not So Anonymous 8 episode opens with Alex Kid’s I Think on Cadenza Lab before Thomash & Projeto Mujique’s Cosmossamba on Voodoohop. Ohxala’s Berimba Regionau, in Rodrigo Gallardo’s remix on Shika Shika, introduces Organic House through its measured percussion and melodic motion. DJ Manny opens Not So Anonymous 8
Nicola Cruz’s Cumbia Del Ovido on ZZK Records brings Downtempo pacing to the early sequence. Alsarama & The Nubatones’ Captain Planet remix of Wad Alnuba, released by Wonderwheel Recordings, follows with Electronica shaped by the group’s vocals and rhythm.
The Alan Parsons Project’s I Robot on Arista Records adds a concise Rock reference before Andi Otto’s Bangalor Whispers on Pingipung returns to electronic detail. Carrot Green’s original Kalimbas and the Psilosamples remix, both on Discos Pato, place Downtempo beside World-informed percussion without breaking the set’s patient movement.
Ely Camargo’s Taieiria on Mr Bongo leads into Nickodemus featuring Carol C on Cleopatra In New York, issued by Wonderwheel Recordings. Tony Carey’s Mai Samurai in its Yellow Power Version on X Records precedes Tulioxi’s Winter Afro Acid on Cosmic Disco Records and Nicola Cruz’s Carrot Green remix of Folha De Jurema on Multi Culti.
Omerar Nanda’s Zuma Dionys remix of Hebele Hubulu on Cosmic Awakenings returns to Downtempo, while EXZ’s Mu on Detriti Records carries the electronic thread forward. Anatolian Weapons featuring Seirios Savvaidis then brings the Mekine U Teksi remix of Ofiodaimon on Beats In Space into the later run.
Mehmet Aslan’s Efsun, featuring Idil Mese and released by Fortuna Records, introduces House Music before Elegante & La Imperial’s vocal mix of Puro Comer on Sello Regional. Cornelius Doctor and Tushen Raï’s Place Du Pont on Hard Fist brings Indie Dance, and the final stretch passes through UJ Pa Gaz & Duncan Gray’s Get Your Acid on Tici Taci, Coss and Lorie’s Getsuyõ on Metanoia, Maria Rita Stumpf’s Cântico Brasileiro Nº3 (Kamaiurá) in the Selvagem & Carrot Green remix on Carrot Green Edits, and Kalbata’s Enkuan Pt. 3 on Fortuna Records, which supplies Tech House pressure before Rodrigo Gallardo’s Ay Que Sera Del Sol on Shika Shika closes the selection.
