Ezmun announced guest DJ Chacona and the tracklists for Cooking With Gas episode 04 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
At the time of publication, Cooking With Gas delivered a weekly selection of percussive, groove-driven and dark electronic sounds selected by Ezmun. Episode 04 opened with a one-hour mix moving from the shadowy, minimal side of leftfield bass towards a tech house conclusion, before Chacona contributed a contrasting but equally intense fifty-minute guest mix.
Chacona is a producer who experiments with heavily processed vocal fragments and sharply cut rhythms across a wide range of tempos. For this episode, he delivered a high-energy 160 BPM selection built largely from his own material, alongside juke, footwork and drum and bass influences.
Originally from Cumbria in the United Kingdom, Ezmun relocated to Vietnam to pursue his ambitions as a DJ and producer. The global pandemic later led to a temporary move to Melbourne, from where he broadcast Cooking With Gas weekly, sharing the sounds that inspired his work and informing the show’s identity.
Ezmun began DJing in his bedroom before progressing to house parties with close friends and collaborators. By 2019, he had entered club environments, playing venues across Manchester, Hanoi, Laos and Ho Chi Minh City while building a reputation in underground circles.
Drawn to the sparse tension of minimal half-time 140 BPM music and the aggressive edge of percussive leftfield bass, Ezmun uses these styles as peaks and troughs within an energetic, techno-leaning framework. At the time, his sound was gaining recognition within Vietnam’s underground scene, and he planned to return and expand his presence there.
While in Melbourne, Ezmun was involved in the city’s underground network, developing his production skills and preparing the release of his own music. Cooking With Gas also provided a platform for emerging artists and close collaborators, alongside further exploration of bass-driven electronic music’s darker edges.
Ezmun opens the episode with a deep and fluid first hour, moving effortlessly between reggaeton-inflected rhythms, UK bass and sub-heavy dubstep. Tracks such as Alejandro and The Mandrake establish a late-night atmosphere, while selections from Ossia, Hypho and Walton deliver weighty low-end pressure rooted firmly in sound system culture.
As the mix develops, the focus sharpens through futuristic breaks and stripped-back dubstep, with cuts like Late Night, Ambush and Pearson Sound’s untitled Hessle release providing rolling momentum and rhythmic tension. The hour closes with hypnotic techno from Dani Sbert, Psyk and Crae, shifting the energy towards darker warehouse territory without losing its bass-driven core.
CHACONA takes over for the second hour with a high-impact run through halftime, jungle, footwork and juke. Ivy Lab’s Thirsty sets a tense, cinematic tone before classic jungle moments like Finley’s Rainbow and Amen To The Lonely reconnect the mix with rave foundations and breakbeat heritage.
The closing stretch leans heavily into footwork and juke, spotlighting Planet Mu staples such as Never Created, Never Destroyed and Let It Go, alongside several of CHACONA’s own productions. Fast, rhythmic and playful, the final selections bring the episode to a confident close, reinforcing Cooking With Gas as a platform for boundary-pushing club music across bass-driven styles.
