DJ Mista C presents his Drum and Bass guest show on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter that operates as a music-news platform, connecting audiences across the region and internationally.
Robert Cullen, performing as Mista C, is a Drum and Bass DJ originally from London with over two decades behind the decks. He picked up his first pair of turntables at fifteen, cutting his teeth on vinyl when London's DnB scene was at its most formative, and as a teenager he was a fixture in the city's record shops, spending whatever he earned on the latest releases and building an ear for the music before he played publicly.
That passion translated into his first professional steps through pirate radio, where he held residencies on several of London's key underground stations in the early 2000s, including Freeze FM, Trilogy FM, Rampage FM and Fire FM. The experience sharpened his technical skills and put him in front of audiences that took the music seriously, while bookings from major DnB promoters followed and, in 2003, he co-founded AIR Promotions with a group of friends to run events across West London.
From there his path took him further afield. A residency at Es Paradis in Ibiza, playing for Helter Skelter and Innovation, placed him on the same bills as established names in the genre, including Andy C, Nicky Blackmarket, Hazard, Phantasy and Ratpack, alongside MCs Skibadee, Shabba, Fearless, Eksman and others.
For the past fourteen years Mista C has been based in Thailand, where he plays regularly across Bangkok's underground club circuit. At the time of publication, he had recently joined the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency and radio station, and this guest show marked his next guest session on the station.
Mista C's fifth guest show opens in Drum and Bass territory with Serum's remix of Voltage and Sweetie Irie's Natty Love on Hospital, whose reggae-inflected vocal gives the opening a warmer register. DJ Brockie and Ed Solo's Echo Box in the ANFM Remix on Undiluted, Taxman's Listen Good featuring MC Moose on Playaz, and Levela's Jacked on Critical Music establish the pace before DJ Hazard's Ultra Fly on Playaz arrives.
Particle's Fall 2 Fast on DNBA and Break's Never Say Never on Symmetry Recordings lead into Sub Zero and T95's Step Back featuring MadRush MC on Propaganda Audio, Future Cut's DLR remix of 2021 on Future Cut Recordings, and Kanine's One on Unleashed. Document One's Hands Up on Elevate and Junk Mail's Yellow Jacket on RAM bring the opening stretch towards High Roll and Ragga Twins' We Are Dem on Formation, where a Jungle thread becomes audible.
BassBrothers' Sekkle and L-Side and MC Fats' Break remix of High Times, both on V Recordings, sit beside Taxman's Utopia on Playaz and Kenny Ken's Gimme Dat Roller on Formation. Serum's Tokyo Rose on Critical Music, DJ SS and Isaac Maya's Born In The Ghetto on Formation, DJ Hazard's Play Something Nice on Playaz, and Dub Elements' VIP of Dope on DEM Recordings keep the pressure high.
Kanine's XTC on Unleashed and A.M.C's Eject on Titan precede Mob Tactics' War City on RAM and High Contrast's Unglued remix of If We Ever on Hospital, which offers a melodic counterpoint.
