Mista C's Drum and Bass show episode 2 appeared on Scientific Sound Asia in October 2019. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Mista C, whose real name is Robert Cullen, is a Drum and Bass DJ from London, United Kingdom, with more than twenty years of industry experience. He began developing his skills at the age of 15 by mixing on vinyl, and his interest in Drum and Bass became an obsession that led him to spend most of his earnings on new DnB releases from London record shops.
Mista C later worked at Revolution Records in West London and held regular slots on leading London pirate radio stations during the early 2000s, including Freeze FM, Trilogy FM, Rampage FM and Fire FM. After gaining recognition through pirate radio, he received bookings from major Drum and Bass promoters and joined acquaintances in 2003 to establish AIR Promotions, which organised events in West London.
He subsequently secured a summer residency at Es Paradis in Ibiza, performing for Helter Skelter and Innovation. Mista C has shared the stage with Andy C, Nicky Blackmarket, Phantasy, Ratpack, Hazard, Covert Garden, Skibadee, Shabba, Fearless, Eksman, IC3, Flyte and Rhymestar.
At the time of publication, Mista C was performing regularly at underground venues in Bangkok, where he had lived for 14 years. He had also joined Scientific Sound Asia's DJ agency and radio station.
Mista C's Drum and Bass show episode 2 opens with UK Apache and Shy FX's Original Nuttah 25 on Cult.ure, bringing a Jungle foundation to the programme. Bad Company's Hornet and Planet Dust on BC Recordings, alongside Pascal's P-Funk Era on Playaz, establish the heavier Drum and Bass and Drum n Bass direction.
High Contrast's If We Ever on Hospital Records is followed by DJ Red's Enta Da Dragon (Tekken Mix) on Trouble On Viny and Sappo's Ding Dong Bass (Remix) on Rinse Out. Aphrodite's Stalker and Micky Finn & Aphrodite's Bad Ass, both on Urban Takeover, lead into Roni Size Reprazent's Brown Paper Bag on UMG.
Moving Fusion's Turbulence begins a Ram Records run that includes Ram Trilogy's Iron Lung, Milky Way and Titan. Bad Company's The Nine on Bad Taste Recordings and Total Science's Squash VIP on CIA keep the selection centred on established late-1990s and early-2000s cuts.
Bad Company return with Dogsploitation and Torpedo on BC Recordings, before M.I.S.T's Outerspace on Soul R and DJ Zinc's Casino Royale on Playaz. Krust's Kloakin King on Full Cycle Records and the Ram Trilogy remix of Warhead on Ram Records provide a firm bridge towards Sub Focus's Let The Story Begin.
Firefox's Bladerunner remix of Buck Rogers on Jungle Cakes precedes Macky Gee's Wizard Foot on Elevate and Sub Focus's X-Ray on Ram Records. Serum and Voltage's Break It Down on Jungle Cakes, Friction, Riko Dan and Tantrum Desire's Stinker on Technique, and Chase & Status's Disaster on Virgin EMI raise the intensity.
In the latter stretch, Covert Garden's unreleased Yohei sits beside Culture Shock's Bunker on Ram Records and DJ Fresh's Signal on Breakbeat Kaos. Tantrum Desire's Zealous on Technique Recordings, Sub Focus's Solar System on Virgin EMI and DJ Hazard's Bricks Don't Roll on Playaz Recordings carry the set towards Bladerunner's Rolling Fire (VIP) and Serial Killaz's Walk N Skank (2017 VIP Mix) on Jungle Cakes.
