Marco Mei presents his 2019 episode 27 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across the region and internationally.
Marco is an Italian DJ and producer with more than twenty-five years of experience in the industry. His early musical background included Afrobeat and foundational electronic music influences.
Having begun DJing in the 1990s, he has taken his enthusiasm for the craft to festivals and nightclubs around the world for more than 25 years. During that time, he has performed alongside Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon, Sander Kleinenberg, Harry “Choo Choo” Romero, Justin Berkmann and Funk D’Void.
He secured a residency at Pacha Club in Sharm-El-Sheikh at the beginning of the new millennium. His subsequent international appearances have included underground clubs and venues such as Arcan in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk.
Working with Stefano Ugliano as Bicycle Corporation, Marco has released more than 50 tracks and remixes played by international artists. Based in Taipei, he works within a wider South East Asian network while developing his DJ and production work.
Marco is part of Scientific Sound Asia’s international DJ and producer community, with a weekly programme on the radio station. His selections cover Deep House, Tech House, Afro House, Melodic House and Techno, Nu-Disco, Indie Dance, Electronica and Techno.
Marco is available for future events through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency. His weekly broadcast provides a regular outlet for his broad club-focused selections.
Marco Mei’s 2019 episode 27 opens with OFF’s “Electrica Salsa” before BLOND reshape Fela Kuti into Afro House. Aladdin, Dicky Trisco with Love Drop and Fabyan then pull the set towards disco and funkier club material, giving the opening section a loose retro feel.
Floorplan appear twice in succession before KiNK’s remix of The Chemical Brothers increases the pressure and shifts the programme towards tougher electronic rhythms. Adam Beyer’s “What You Need” in Kölsch’s remix then brings Melodic House and Techno into the centre of the mix, followed by Adana Twins and Eelke Kleijn in Raxon’s remix.
Solardo and Eli Brown’s “XTC” in the SOSA remix keeps that melodic club thread moving before Matthias Tanzmann with Mihalis Safras and Nick Curly bring the focus back towards Tech House. Faithless then provides a familiar vocal reference with “Insomnia,” leading into a run of edits and reworks that reconnects the set with disco and classic dance music.
The Supremes and Surgery Edits are followed by Powerdance in Mousse T.’s Disco Shizzle mix, bringing House Music and disco back to the foreground. Armando’s “Real Jazz” adds a rawer Chicago influence before the closing section broadens again through Gigi D’Agostino and Dangerous Dan with Nicky Night Time and Rhonda INTL.
Talk Talk’s “It’s My Life” closes a set that moves freely between disco, house, melodic techno and tech house without settling into one narrow style. Marco Mei keeps the programme connected through rhythm and familiar club references, with the harder middle section balanced by the funkier and more nostalgic material at either end.
