DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, comes from Évora, Portugal, and is a passionate fan of electronic music. His extensive collection of vinyl records and digital tracks demonstrates his commitment to Techno, House, Drum and Bass and Chillout.
During the 1990s, DJ Joshua was instrumental in Portugal's rave culture, despite resistance to the then-unconventional style of rave music. He persisted with community-radio programmes and events, gaining recognition locally and internationally.
Following a brief hiatus for family matters, DJ Joshua returned to music by launching his radio shows. Floating Beats draws on several electronic styles, with music from Richie Hawtin, Delano Smith, Andy Kneale and Christian Smith, and brings Techno and House together.
In its second hour, Velvety Elements explores the soulful side of Deep House through artists including DJOKO, Henrik Villard, Sean McCabe and Tony Lionni. The programme foregrounds the emotional depth and complexity of Deep House music.
DJ Joshua's selections and transitions demonstrate his understanding of electronic music and its effect on listeners, while his commitment to quality programming has earned a devoted following. Both programmes are supported by tracklists and can be heard through his Mixcloud page.
Floating Beats opens with DJ Ino and MC Johnny Def's Positivity in the DJ Vibe Remix on Be Adult Music, setting out a Deep House foundation alongside Deejay Astral's Junction on Street Tracks. Hidden Sequence's Sun in My Eyes in the Shadows Dub moves into Peak Time Techno on 200 Records (2).
Mihai Popoviciu's Double Clap on Poker Flat Recordings introduces Tech House, followed by Detlef's Lorenzo de Blanck remix of Music Please on Repopulate Mars and Miane's H80 on UNDR THE RADR. H2H's Taho remix of Berlin Nights In Paris and Mercedes and Benn Starr's BAYA keep the opening stretch moving before the programme reaches Sam Holland.
Sam Holland's extended Roll The Dice on Club Bad brings in House Music, while Rone White and Rowen Clark's Freak Machine on Under No Illusion returns to Tech House. Markus Homm's Amour Fou on Hive Audio adds Deep Tech House after Hansgod's Highway to Love.
The first hour then passes through MANT's Dance On It, Arapu's Josip Petrov edit of Wasting and B&S Concept with MOAN's Lesny Deep remix of Nothing Terrifies. Electricano's You & I and ARTWORK featuring Dearson's instrumental Love Is Real complete the Floating Beats selection.
Velvety Elements begins with B&S Concept's Destination Y on Gents & Dandy's, returning the second hour to Deep House. Fizzikx's Deep Vibe on Pure Beats Records follows with House Music energy.
Demarkus Lewis brings About U from Eyedyllic Music into the centre of the hour with Deep House, before Joeoh's Take My Bass on NOPRESET Records introduces Deep Tech House. The pairing keeps the programme focused on the warmer, deeper side of House music described in its introduction.
DJ Rasoul's Let Me Love You on Large Music returns to Deep House with a vocal-led title, followed by Paulo Rocha's Yogic Flying on Black Vinyl Records. Their placement leads naturally towards the final two records without breaking the second hour's house-centred direction.
Luna City Express featuring Aaron Palmer's She Don't Dance on Voltaire Music keeps the House Music thread present near the close. Forteba's SpecDub remix of Housing Estate on Tronic Soundz ends Velvety Elements in Deep House territory.
