DJ Joshua’s Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes are featured on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, comes from Évora, Portugal, and is a passionate fan of electronic music. His commitment to the music is evident in an extensive collection of vinyl records and digital tracks.
His DJ career draws on electronic styles including techno, house, drum and bass, chillout and deeper house forms. During the 1990s, he played a part in Portugal’s rave culture despite resistance to the then-unconventional sound.
Joshua persisted by presenting music on community radio programmes and organising events, later gaining recognition locally and internationally. After a short break to focus on family matters, he returned to music through his radio shows.
Floating Beats presents a range of electronic styles, with selections associated with artists including Richie Hawtin, Delano Smith, Andy Kneale and Christian Smith. Its first hour brings together tougher and more spacious club music.
Velvety Elements occupies the second hour and explores the soulful side of deeper house music through artists such as DJOKO, Henrik Villard, Sean McCabe and Tony Lionni. The programme gives space to the emotional depth and detail of this sound.
Joshua’s selections demonstrate his deep understanding of electronic music and have earned him a devoted following. His electronic music releases can be heard on Mixcloud.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Harrison BDP’s Moment Of Deliverance on Suol, setting a Deep House foundation. Stephan Bazbaz and Asael Weiss follow with Mihai Popoviciu’s remix of Yeshoti on Cyclic Records, bringing in Deep Tech House, before Delano Smith’s No Fear extends the opening mood.
Moonlit Vision’s Agitator on MicroHertz keeps the deep-tech focus in place. Miane’s H80 on UNDR THE RADR and James Solace’s Keep On on Hot Creations then turn towards Tech House.
Avision’s Feelin' You leads into Sian and Mladen Tomic’s Front Pocket, with Nicole Moudaber’s remix on Octopus Recordings supplying Peak Time Techno pressure. H2H, the partnership of Chez Damier and Bem Vedren, follows with Taho’s remix of Berlin Nights In Paris.
Neverdogs’ Just Out on Mindshake Records returns the first hour to tech house. Sharam featuring James Baldwin closes this section with the Pin Drop Mix of Exodus.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with Juarez’s extended mix of What I Do on Motive Records and Evren Furtuna’s So Far Away on Saisons. Henrik Villard’s Something New on Puro Music keeps the warmer deep-house direction at the centre of the programme.
DJ Linus brings Nitty Gritty from Piston Recordings into the sequence, followed by DJOKO’s Ventura. Azteca’s Knock Over, in James Wyler’s remix on Fine Music, adds another deep-tech house turn.
Demarkus Lewis’s Soul Of A Nation on Viva Recordings restores the second hour’s deep-house emphasis. Atom’s Terry Lee Brown Jr. remix of Love To Heart precedes JOFF.’s Electric Feet on Piston Recordings.
DJ Fronter’s Bring Me Down on Green Kiwi Records and David Alvarado’s Luca Bacchetti mix of Klugh on Ovum Recordings bring the set back to tech house. Tojami Sessions closes Velvety Elements with Yoko on Plastic City, finishing on a deeper house note.
