DJ Joshua presents another pairing of Floating Beats and Velvety Elements on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform, connecting underground artists and listeners across Asia and internationally.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been involved with electronic music since the 1990s, building his knowledge through vinyl, cassettes, CDs and later digital formats. His background spans House, Techno, Drum and Bass, Chillout and other electronic styles developed through decades of collecting, DJing and radio.
Joshua began mixing during the early 1990s and soon became an enthusiastic vinyl collector before becoming involved with local radio. He also performed at events organised with friends and supported local artists as Portugal’s rave and underground electronic scenes continued to develop.
After stepping away from regular DJ activity to concentrate on family life, Joshua eventually returned to music and established Floating Beats. The programme became an outlet for the deeper, progressive and hypnotic side of his collection, combining atmospheric selections with controlled pacing and underground House and Techno.
Velvety Elements later developed as a complementary programme with a warmer and more soulful identity. Its selections place greater emphasis on groove, melody and deeper shades of House, giving Joshua a separate space for music that differs from the more hypnotic character of Floating Beats.
His production work has expanded through several aliases, allowing different areas of his musical background to develop independently. Joshua Marian is associated with warmer, soulful and melodic material, while Joshua Fernand concentrates on tougher club-focused Techno and more forceful rhythmic structures.
As Joshua Marian, releases including Soul Zone and Love My Soul on Bassment Tapes sit alongside Tengo Rojo, Restless Lips, Always On My Mind and I Can Go, You Can See. The project reflects much of the warmer and groove-led direction that also shapes Velvety Elements.
The K Joshua alias gives him room to explore more hypnotic, spacious, dub-influenced and experimental ideas. Promised Work on Kopoc, Stranger Things on dublucid, As You Are on Liberty Rhythm and Slow Laziness on Ghetto Rhythms Records illustrate that deeper side of his catalogue.
Joshua Fernand provides a stronger contrast through contemporary Techno and more direct club material. Releases including Blue River, Breaking Rocks and Tearing Metal give the project a tougher and more percussive identity than his Joshua Marian and K Joshua work.
In 2024, Joshua founded JFLM Recordings as an independent outlet for his productions and collaborative projects. The label connects his studio activity with the same long-standing interest in underground electronic music that has shaped his DJing and broadcasting.
Together, Floating Beats and Velvety Elements provide two distinct outlets for Joshua’s musical background. The former concentrates on deeper, progressive and hypnotic electronic music, while the latter gives greater space to warmer, soulful and groove-focused House.
DJ Joshua opens Floating Beats 433 with Magit Cacoon's Aussi and Ian O'Donovan's Bajau, establishing an atmospheric Melodic House and Techno foundation before Dave Angel raises the intensity with Belle Ame. Oniris then restores the melodic thread through Borderline, creating an early contrast between expansive electronic textures and firmer club-driven percussion.
Adam Beyer, Green Velvet and Layton Giordani push the first hour towards Peak Time Techno with Space Date, followed by Ian O'Donovan and Luca Gaeta on Telepathy. Kevin Saunderson's remix of Blake Baxter, Jules Wells with Mason Rubinstein and Dast continue that powerful sequence, giving the middle and latter stages their strongest rhythmic momentum.
Senses Of Mind's After Earth brings the selection back towards its melodic side after the extended Techno run. The Model then closes Floating Beats 433 with Transitions, shifting into House Music and giving the first hour a looser finish after the sustained pressure of the preceding tracks.
Velvety Elements 006 changes the mood with Cotonete's Layla in the DJ Deep and Romain Poncet Acid Remix, opening a long Deep House passage that continues through Fynn Callum. Nolan and Mr. V then introduce Deep Tech House with It's a Trap, adding a more stripped and tightly wound rhythm before Jay Newman, Kevin Yost, Shur-I-Kan and Forteba restore the deeper house flow.
Nathan Barato's Music shifts the second hour into a straighter House groove before DJ Sneak, Platzdasch with Dix and Dubtribe Sound System maintain that more direct rhythmic approach. The sequence gives the latter part of Velvety Elements 006 a fuller club feel while retaining the warmer character established during its opening Deep House selections.
Manuel Costela and Sauco return to deeper territory with Three Flowers, followed by Nikki O and Javonntte's Love Without Dub to close the programme. Together, the two hours show the contrast between Floating Beats' melodic and Peak Time Techno focus and Velvety Elements' warmer balance of Deep House, House and Deep Tech House.
