DJ Joshua’s Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes featured in this Scientific Sound Asia track-list announcement published on 8 June 2020. DJ Joshua, known to many as Joshua Mar, is a music enthusiast from Évora, Portugal, with a passion for electronic music. His collection brings together House, Drum and Bass, Chillout and Techno, drawing on a range of electronic styles.
In his weekly Floating Beats programme, Joshua presents melodic material and rhythmic electronic selections. Velvety Elements focuses on the smoother, more soulful side of House music.
Joshua began mixing and collecting vinyl in the early 1990s, before spending formative years at local radio stations. He explored several electronic genres and hosted events informed by Portugal’s rave culture, using broadcast media to share music and bring people together.
After the birth of his daughter, Joshua stepped back from the music scene to concentrate on fatherhood and family life. He later returned to music and revived his shows, including Floating Beats Sessions.

His diverse playlist spans House and Techno variations, including Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House and Melodic Techno. Joshua’s podcasts reach listeners through electronic-music platforms and radio networks around the world.
Across Floating Beats and Velvety Elements, Joshua combines higher-tempo selections with more restrained harmonies. The two programmes provide distinct settings for the electronic music that has shaped his work.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Magit Cacoon’s Aussi on Rebellion and Ian O'Donovan’s Bajau on Einmusika Recordings. Both tracks establish the Melodic House and Techno direction heard at the start of the programme.
Dave Angel’s Belle Ame on Rotation Records raises the pressure before Oniris brings Borderline from Astropolis Records back into melodic territory. The first hour then reaches for Peak Time Techno with Adam Beyer, Green Velvet and Layton Giordani’s Space Date on Drumcode.
Ian O'Donovan and Luca Gaeta follow with Telepathy on Phobiq, keeping the tougher rhythmic focus in place. Blake Baxter’s Tenth Planet, in Kevin Saunderson’s Reese You No Extended Remix on KMS Records, adds another Detroit-rooted techno reference.
Jules Wells and Mason Rubinstein’s Resurrection on Hijacked Records Detroit sits alongside Dast’s Collide before Senses Of Mind’s After Earth on Proton Music restores the melodic thread. The Model closes this portion with Transitions on Housewax, introducing House Music before Cotonete’s Layla, in the DJ Deep and Romain Poncet Acid Remix on Heavenly Sweetness, turns towards deeper club material.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with Fynn Callum’s Jonny Bee Remix of Deep South West on UM Records (6) and Nolan and Mr. V’s It's a Trap. The hour then settles into Deep House through Jay Newman’s Orange on Celestial Recordings.
Kevin Yost’s Resonant Version of Jump arrives on TSOY with a spacious deep-house feel. Shur-I-Kan’s Freakin on Lazy Days Music keeps that warmer approach intact.
Forteba’s Jetfinder on Plastic City extends the deeper section before Nathan Barato’s Music changes the pace. DJ Sneak’s Stars on Too Many Rules brings the programme back to House Music with a direct, dancefloor-focused cut.
Platzdasch and Dix contribute Stewpit on King Street Sounds, followed by Dubtribe Sound System’s Equitoreal on Jive. Manuel Costela and Sauco’s Three Flowers leads into Nikki O and Javonntte’s Love Without Dub, giving Velvety Elements a measured finish.
