DJ Joshua presents the Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes in this Scientific Sound Asia post from 28 December 2020. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Portuguese electronic music enthusiast DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, draws on an extensive music collection in his work as a DJ. Raised in Evora, his interest in electronic music began at a young age and developed through House Music, Drum and Bass, Chill-out and especially Techno.
During his teenage years in the early nineties, he began collecting vinyl and learning to become a disc jockey. He helped introduce rave music and culture through local radio programmes covering a wide range of electronic music, and also played at events organised with friends and fellow ravers.
His involvement in Portugal's growing rave scene led him to recognise the value of a media platform for presenting electronic genres on local radio. Shortly after the birth of his first child, he stepped back to focus on fatherhood before returning to music as his child grew older.
He launched a radio show called Floating Beats to meet his musical needs. Joshua's Floating Beats and Velvety Elements podcasts were broadcast on various online radio stations worldwide.
Joshua describes music as an art form that brings elements together to evoke emotion and inspire movement. He sees the programmes as spaces where sounds appear to float before landing on listeners' bodies and inviting them to enjoy the experience.
His weekly programming covers a range of house and techno styles, including Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House, Melodic Techno and Techno. These editions originally aired on Monday 28 December 2020.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Hybrasil's Come Back on Rekids, establishing Peak Time Techno before Danilo Schneider's Suspend on Tip Tap Records introduces Deep Tech House. DJ QU's Air's Force on Strength Music Recordings then brings the set into deeper house territory.
Inigo Kennedy's Black Light on Cocoon Recordings and KiNK's The Clock on Sofia keep the opening hour focused on forceful club material. G Flame's Sterac Stripped Remix of Fever on This And That brings in Tech House without leaving that forward momentum behind.
Petit Beurre's Launch on Ekostar follows with another Tech House cut, while Kirk Degiorgio's Mark Broom Remix of Arc Mode on Suara returns to Peak Time Techno. Coyu's Garnier At (any) Sonar, also on Suara, introduces Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) into the programme.
Huxley's Tight Knitted on Hot Haus Recs pushes the first hour back towards Peak Time Techno. DJ Emerson's Rolling on Micro.Fon and Sav-E's Haunted on Minimal Kids complete Floating Beats with a firm techno finish.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with Tigerskin's Yacht on Forms & Figures and Jovonn's Inside on Code Red Recordings. DJ Seinfeld's U on Lobster Fury extends the warmer, deeper character established by those selections.
Harrison BDP's Sun Dial on Berg Audio brings Deep Tech House into the second programme. Vanilla Ace and Venky's Kyle Kinch Remix of Secret on Simma Black then turns towards House Music.
Vasily Umanets' Dancing In The Morning on Houtune restores the deeper house emphasis. Sllash & Doppe's I Want You Too on Great Stuff Recordings adds a more direct House Music selection.
Platzdasch & Dix's What If on Gents & Dandy's returns the final stretch to Deep House. Norm Talley's The Gambler on Frole Records closes Velvety Elements with the same considered house focus.
