DJ Joshua presents his Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programme on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese music lover and collector whose interests are rooted in electronic music. From Evora in Portugal, he has developed an interest in styles ranging from House and Drum and Bass to Chill-out and Techno.
In 2020, his weekly Floating Beats show gave him space to experiment with progressive, calmer, melodic and Techno sounds. Its second hour, Velvety Elements, focused on softer house music and its many elements.
He began as a disc jockey, making his first mixes in the early nineties and becoming an avid vinyl collector. He worked on local radio shows covering almost every electronic music genre, performed at House Music and Techno events planned with friends, and recognised radio's value in reaching an audience as Portugal's rave scene grew.
After the birth of his daughter, Joshua took a break from the music scene. A few years into fatherhood, he returned to radio to satisfy his enduring love of music and Floating Beats Sessions was born.
He has this to say about his show: 'Music is an art form. Is the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move. This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and end up falling onto your body, enjoy it.'
In his weekly shows, Joshua explores House Music and Techno sub-genres, predominantly featuring Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House, Melodic Techno and Techno. His podcasts have been broadcast on House Music and Techno radio stations internationally.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Sascha Dive's Inner Circle (Hooved Dub Remix) on Deep Vibes, establishing House Music before Enzo Siragusa and Seb Zito's What's Happening on Fuse London brings in Deep House. Halo Varga, Petar Cvetkovic and Cess then bring In Da Groove on NG Trax into Deep Tech House territory.
Spieltape's Fountainhead (Mihai Popoviciu Remix) on Highway Records is followed by Charlie Banks' One Morning In Staines on MicroHertz. Sven Tasnadi's My Soul (Detlef Remix) on Voltaire Music brings a more pointed Tech House feel.
DJ Vibe's Eclectic on Discotexas returns to house rhythms before David Aurel's The Way I Feel on Moan shifts the focus back towards deep tech house. Devv's Reverie (Cleave Martinez Remix) on Farmat keeps that stripped-back direction in place.
Dachshund's Direct on Gruuv introduces another deep-house cut near the close of the first hour. Kevin Yost's Listen on I Records Classics gives Floating Beats a measured finish.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with Alex Gomez and Bias's Good Time, then turns to Franck Roger's Ruffcut on Rutilance Recordings. AtLows' How Do I Get to Detroit on Souluxe Record Co brings in Funky House rhythms.
Butch and C. Vogt's Vogue (Jimpster Remix) on Freerange Records returns to deep-house textures. Doc Martin, JTJ and Lillia's For The Music on Nervous Records follows with a direct house approach.
Deetron's The Juggler on Get Physical Music adds a tech-house edge to the second hour. Budakid's Walkman (Tunnelvisions Remix) on Exploited then draws the programme back towards deep house.
DJ Sneak's Stayin High on Too Many Rules and Ian Pooley's Good Things on Kwench Records keep the house foundation present. Luna City Express's Tribalism Disco and The Mekanism and Arno's Signs, both on Robsoul Recordings, lead into Steve Kelley's deep-tech-house In My House on Sublease Music.
