DJ Joshua, also known as Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese DJ whose work is rooted in a longstanding passion for music and a broad record collection. He comes from Portugal, a country with an active electronic-music culture.
Originally from Evora, Portugal, DJ Joshua began his musical career in the early 1990s through the world of DJing. His interest in House Music, Drum and Bass, chill-out music and Techno shows the range of his electronic selections.
He first shared mixes on local radio programmes and organised gatherings with fellow music lovers, becoming increasingly involved in the local scene. As rave culture emerged in Portugal, he recognised radio's ability to connect with a wider audience.
DJ Joshua hosts the weekly Floating Beats show, selecting progressive, chill, melodic and techno-focused records. Its second hour, Velvety Elements, centres on the warmer and more calming qualities of house music.
After becoming a father, DJ Joshua temporarily stepped away from the music industry. His enduring interest in music led him to create Floating Beats Sessions, a radio programme that received worldwide acclaim.
Through podcasts and radio shows, DJ Joshua explores the emotional range of house music across Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit Techno, Soulful House, Progressive House, Techno, Vocal House and Melodic Techno. He treats music as an artistic expression that can stir emotions and encourage dancing.
His podcasts aim to create a close connection with the audience through a focused musical selection. They also offer listeners an opportunity to explore the tunes that define his distinct style.
The Floating Beats section opens with Unknown's Maboroshi on Chikyu-u Records, establishing a House Music foundation before Delano Smith's Untitled 5. Mihai Popoviciu's Mount Gnom on Berg Audio then brings in Deep Tech House detail.
Phaze Dee's The Underground on Unknown Season settles into Deep House territory. Charlie Tear's Dub 7, released through Bedrock Records, brings a measured Melodic House and Techno shade.
D'Julz's Point G remix of Lemon Juice on Bass Culture Records returns to Deep Tech House before Steve Lawler's Halo Varga remix of 12 Bottles on Rawthentic. Astronivo's Rulers Of The Deep remix of Freak Me Out on Tulipa Recordings pushes the sequence into Tech House.
Josh Butler's Back on Rejected keeps the Tech House focus direct and club-minded. Sascha Sonido's Lazy on Cyclic Records closes the Floating Beats selection with another Deep Tech House cut.
Velvety Elements begins with Around7's Keep It Loose on Robsoul Recordings, bringing in Funky House warmth. DJ Fudge's Keep On Wondering on Tejal Records and Evren Furtuna and The Writers Poet's Private Party on Tronic Soundz follow with Deep House selections.
Harrison BDP's Sun Dial on Berg Audio adds a Deep Tech House edge to the second programme. Vasily Umanets' Cedric Salander remix of Inmost, issued by M-Sol DEEP, returns the set to Deep House.
Vanilla Ace and Venky's Kyle Kinch remix of Secret on Simma Black supplies a house-focused change of pace. Roland Nights and Man Go Funk's The Underground on Large Music and Steffi's Fallin' on Dolly bring the sequence back towards Deep House.
Pedro Costa's Acid Kiss on Be Positive Records gives the final stretch a Deep Tech House edge. Datar's Danny's Space Terrace Mix of B on Hooj Choons closes Velvety Elements with Progressive House.
