DJ Joshua’s Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes are presented on Scientific Sound Asia as two distinct selections of electronic music. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency, and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, also known as Joshua Mar, is from Évora, Portugal, and is a dedicated collector of electronic music. His collection spans vinyl records and digital tracks, while his passion for techno, house, drum and bass, and chillout has shaped his work as a DJ.
During his early career, DJ Joshua contributed to Portugal’s rave scene in the 1990s, when rave music encountered social resistance. He persevered in sharing his music through local radio programmes and events, gaining recognition locally and further afield.
After a brief hiatus to focus on family, DJ Joshua returned to music and launched his radio shows. Floating Beats focuses on deeper, progressive and underground electronic music, including selections by Sasha, Moby and Ian O’Donovan.
Velvety Elements occupies the second hour and explores the soulful side of deep house through artists including Claro Intelecto, Delano Smith and DJ Vibe. Its selection gives the programme a focused and absorbing listening experience.
DJ Joshua’s programmes are shaped by considered track choices and smooth transitions, demonstrating his understanding of electronic music and its effect on listeners. That approach has earned a dedicated following and gives each hour a clearly defined musical character.
Floating Beats opens with Jonas Saalbach’s Hyperiider on Moodmusic, establishing a Peak Time Techno foundation. Sasha’s Ripcord, released through Last Night On Earth, introduces Melodic House and Techno contours without leaving the first hour’s club-focused direction.
Avision’s How We Do It on fabric Records and Oliver Lieb’s Stream Of Pearls on Tronic keep the pressure firm through peak-time techno. Madben’s 16-07 on Astropolis Records follows with Ian O’Donovan’s Undercurrent on Loveland Recordings, extending that forceful opening stretch.
Moby’s Bart Skils remix of Go, issued by Deepalma, introduces a more spacious Progressive House passage. Petit Beurre’s Sukra on Motech Records restores the tougher rhythmic emphasis before Andy Kneale’s Matt Davis remix of Mute on Stripped Digital adds melodic detail.
CJ Bolland and The Advent’s The Advent remix of Camargue 2019 on Drumcode brings explicit Techno into the closing phase of Floating Beats. Theobald Ringer’s Pedro in Tokyo on Metrohm completes the first hour with a direct, peak-time finish.
Velvety Elements begins with Claro Intelecto’s Know The Lingo on Modern Love, moving into Tech House territory. Delano Smith’s Safe Place on Mixmode Recordings then opens the warmer House Music side of the second hour.
Azteca’s Hanfry Martinez remix of Only With You on Decay Records and Rossko’s The Step Up on Fuse London deepen the groove through Deep Tech House. Their stripped rhythmic focus gives this central section a firmer underground edge.
Danny Howells’ Players on Variety Music and Hector Couto’s Doin It on Sola bring the second hour back towards tech house. The two records retain the percussion-led feel while preparing the change into DJ Vibe’s later house selection.
DJ Vibe’s Special on Discotexas leads into The New Aluminists’ Get Down On It on Paper Recordings, where Deep House provides a more measured close. Craig Williams and Vula’s Josh Butler remix of Don’t Let Go on Snatch! Records finishes Velvety Elements with a return to house-led dancefloor momentum.
