DJ Joshua’s Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes feature on Scientific Sound Asia in this two-hour edition. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, also known as Joshua Mar and from Évora, Portugal, is a dedicated collector of electronic music. His collection ranges from vinyl records to digital tracks, and his passion for electronic music, especially Techno, House, Drum and Bass and Chillout, has shaped his work as a DJ.
During the 1990s, DJ Joshua contributed to Portugal’s rave scene while rave music faced social resistance. He persevered with local radio programmes and events, gaining recognition within his community and further afield.
After a brief hiatus to focus on family, DJ Joshua returned to music and launched his radio shows. Floating Beats presents deeper, progressive and underground electronic music, while Velvety Elements centres on warmer, deeper and more soulful House Music.
Floating Beats brings together a broad range of electronic music, including work by Ian O'Donovan, Emerson Todd and Laurent Garnier. Its mix of Techno and House music gives the first hour a varied club-focused direction.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements explores the soulful side of Deep House through artists including Matthieu Faubourg, Brawther and DJ Steaw. The programme emphasises the emotional depth and detail of Deep House.
The two shows are defined by considered selections and smooth transitions informed by Joshua’s knowledge of electronic music. Their programming earned him a dedicated following.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Ian O'Donovan’s Firenze on EevoNext, introducing Techno before Emerson Todd’s Shadow Boxer brings Tech House through Upon You Records. Satoshi Fumi’s Anton Ishutin remix of Shizuku on Soviett Records then turns towards Deep House.
Petit Beurre’s Budha on Motech Records raises the intensity with Peak Time Techno. Marst’s Classic, released through King Street Sounds, follows with a more direct House Music foundation.
Laurent Garnier’s 1-4 Doctor C’est Chouette on Kompakt returns the hour to peak-time pressure. Kevin Yost’s We Are Not Machines on TSOY softens the pace with another Deep House selection.
Paul Nolan’s The Becoming on When We Dip Records introduces Melodic House and Techno, before Sasha’s GameOvr on Watergate Records restores a firmer Techno edge. Fundamental Harmonics closes this part of the programme with Andromeda on Detone, keeping the melodic house and techno thread in view.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with Matthieu Faubourg’s Double File on Sure Cuts Records, settling into House Music. Brawther’s Soothing on Cabinet Records follows with a patient Deep House feel.
B From E’s Dream Mix of The People on Tartelet Records keeps the second hour in Deep House territory. B&S Concept’s Feel the Way on B&S Music then adds a House Music lift.
DJ Steaw’s This Kind of Music on Rutilance Recordings brings the focus back to Deep House. Henrik Villard’s Right Here, released on Nite Records, answers with a concise House Music cut.
Platzdasch and Dix’s En Plein Air on Feedasoul Records and Danny Howells’ Paradium on Armada Subjekt move from Deep House into House Music. Lauhaus and Mario Franca’s Flokati on Piston Recordings, Luis Bravo’s Ricardo Argomaniz remix of Back 2 Congas on Colour In Music, and Mr. G’s Just Wanna Dance on Phoenix G bring the set to a warm House Music finish.
