Known for his love of music and extensive collection, DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese music enthusiast. Originally from Evora, Portugal, he focuses primarily on electronic music, showcasing his taste in House, Drum and Bass, chill-out, and Techno.
With his weekly show Floating Beats, he explores progressive and chill tunes alongside melodic and Techno styles. In the second hour, he works with the radio programme Velvety Elements, which focuses on the more calming aspects of house music.
His music-industry work began as a DJ in the early 1990s, when he made his first mixes and developed a love of collecting vinyl records. He began by presenting different electronic music styles on local radio programmes and organising events with fellow enthusiasts, later recognising Portugal's growing rave culture and radio's ability to reach a wider audience.
His affection for music led him to step away from the music business after the birth of his daughter. A few years later, his love of music brought him back to radio with a new show called Floating Beats Sessions.
His podcast, Floating Beats, is broadcast on multiple radio stations around the world. He characterises his show by saying: "Music is an artistic expression that blends different components to stir emotions and inspire movement... With a deep love for house music, DJ Joshua launched Velvety Elements as a tribute to the genre's emotional richness. Its podcasts explore the nuances of house music and have earned acclaim on international House and Techno radio stations, including Scientific Sound Asia.
Joshua explores House Music and Techno sub-genres including Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit Techno, Soulful House, Progressive House, Techno, Vocal House, and Melodic Techno in his regular broadcasts. The two programmes give those interests separate spaces, with Floating Beats centred on progressive and underground electronic music and Velvety Elements on warmer, deeper, more soulful House Music.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Saytek's God Botherers on Detone, establishing a Peak Time Techno edge. Satoshi Fumi's Anton Ishutin remix of Shizuku, released through Soviett Records, then brings in Deep House detail.
Theobald Ringer's G10 on Carton-Pate Records restores the firmer tempo before Zacharias Tiempo's Petar Dundov remix of Knock on Dear Deer follows. Petit Beurre's Chandra on Motech Records keeps that Peak Time Techno focus in place.
Ian O'Donovan's Tribe on Einmusika Recordings introduces Melodic House and Techno to the first-hour selection. THEMBA's Paliva, issued by Knee Deep In Sound, returns the programme to a more forceful rhythmic setting.
Vince Watson's Via on Everysoul closes the Floating Beats portion with another Peak Time Techno selection. Across these records, Joshua places deeper material beside more direct club-focused tracks without losing the programme's electronic focus.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with Brame & Hamo's Limewire, released on their own Brame & Hamo label. Different Shapes follows with Halo on Metatronicle, bringing Tech House into the warmer second-hour selection.
Tigerskin's Yacht on Forms & Figures returns the hour to Deep House, while Charlie Banks' Jesse Maas remix of Dance With Me arrives via PIV. Both selections support the more measured house direction established for Velvety Elements.
Arturo Garces brings Testify from Purveyor Underground, introducing House Music to the programme's second hour. Janeret's Surge on Rutilance Recordings then returns to a deeper house approach.
Antonio Del Prete's Raresh Rush remix of Summer Chords on Crossworld Records is followed later by Fred H's Muzik on Brique Rouge, keeping the house emphasis present. Markus Homm's Is It Where I Am on Vibe Material introduces Deep Tech House, before Steffi's November on Dolly closes the hour in Deep House territory.
