DJ Joshua presents a Floating Beats edition alongside Velvety Elements 011 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, real name Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese DJ, producer and lifelong collector of electronic music. Based in Évora, he has spent decades building an extensive archive of vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital releases.
His passion for electronic music spans House, Drum and Bass, Chillout and Techno, and this broad foundation shapes his style. Floating Beats, his long-running weekly show, gives him space to explore progressive, melodic and atmospheric sounds across the spectrum of House and Techno.
It is accompanied by a second hour titled Velvety Elements, a programme focused on the softer and more soulful sides of House Music, highlighting warm harmonies, deep grooves and emotive textures. Joshua began in the early nineties, mixing at home and collecting records before moving into local radio.
He played across almost every corner of the electronic spectrum and performed at House and Techno events he organised with friends. As Portugal’s rave scene grew, he recognised the importance of radio as a way to introduce new sounds and inspire younger listeners.
After stepping away from the scene to focus on fatherhood, he later returned with renewed purpose. Floating Beats was created as an outlet for his enduring passion and quickly attracted an international following.
This revival marked the beginning of his most productive artistic period, which includes multiple aliases, new releases and the launch of his label JFLM Recordings. He describes his shows with a simple philosophy:
"Music is an art form. It is the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move. This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and fall onto your body. Enjoy it."
Each week, Joshua showcases a fresh selection of Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House, Melodic Techno and Techno. His broadcasts reach a global audience through a variety of house and techno radio platforms internationally.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Jonas Saalbach’s Hyperiider on Moodmusic, bringing Peak Time Techno to the front. Valdovinos follows with Timeless on Kermesse Music, introducing a warmer Deep House touch.
Lionel Weets’ A New Era on Motech Records restores the peak-time techno pressure before Marst’s Classic on King Street Sounds turns towards House Music. Ian O’Donovan’s Cloud 9, released through Einmusika Recordings, then brings the melodic contours of Melodic House and Techno.
Petit Beurre’s Yamdev on Motech Records returns to peak-time techno, while Jules Wells’ External on Hijacked Records Detroit changes the rhythm with Tech House. Those selections give the first hour a firmer rhythmic focus without losing its melodic thread.
Laurent Garnier’s Man With The Red Face in its Original Club Mix on Mute supplies the hour’s classic house reference. Madben closes Floating Beats with Your Little Voice, tightening the handover into the second programme.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with Intr0beatz’s Here 4 You on AWK Recordings, setting a warm deep house foundation. Monika Ross follows with Split It on Talman Records, adding the clipped percussion and low-slung groove of Deep Tech House.
Sweetpower’s Happy Days in Deftone’s remix on Blockhead Recordings lifts the hour through house music. Jesse Maas’s Neio on PIV brings the mood back into deep house without breaking the measured pace.
Mike Delgado’s The Murder Track on Z Records and Danny Howells’ Shortwave on Selador extend the deep-house passage with a patient, club-focused feel. PEZNT and Divine Essence then add Deep Down Inside before Raw Instinct’s Fred Everything dub of De la Bass on Peppermint Jam Records draws the groove further inward.
Fizzikx’s Platzdasch & Dix remix of The Warning on Moiss Music Black leads into Inland Knights’ Boy on Drop Music. Matthias Tanzmann and Mathias Kaden close Velvety Elements with Dizzy on Moon Harbour Recordings, finishing the hour with tech house energy.
