El Brujo returns with El Brujo and the Wild Bunch episode 12, this time featuring guest DJ COACH on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform, serving listeners across the region and internationally.
El Brujo, whose real name is Robert Milanesi, is an Italian DJ and producer born in 1964 whose musical background developed through Bologna’s underground electronic scene. By 1994, he had become closely involved with the city’s rave culture and the early development of its House and Techno community.
His production career moved into official releases in 2008 with Warriors on the Milan-based Open Legs label. That release marked the beginning of a catalogue that would later move across several areas of underground electronic music while retaining the raw character associated with his early club background.
In 2010, El Brujo launched Jambalay Records, with the label’s opening event taking place at Club Geminis in Ibiza harbour. The imprint became an important outlet for his own productions as well as music from other artists connected with his wider network.
The label gained further attention in 2011 when Maya Jane Coles included one of its releases in her February chart. That period also included El Brujo’s collaboration with Big Mojo on The Way to Mozambique and the physical CD project Nutty Fellas Are Go.
His catalogue continued to expand through labels including Elektrax, Frameworkxx, LW Recordings, Subwoofer, Berlin After Dark, Music Is The Drug, Gobekli Tepe, Fortwin Records, Bunker, Mad Rhythm, SE7ENS and Physical Techno. These releases demonstrate his willingness to move between different areas of electronic music rather than remain tied to one narrow production formula.
In January 2019, Plastic Dreams on Frameworkxx reached number 33 on Beatport’s Hard Techno Top 100. The chart result highlighted the heavier side of his catalogue and added to a body of work already developed through years of independent label activity.
El Brujo’s production style is characterised by a raw, direct approach that can shift between different genres while retaining a recognisable underground identity. His music frequently leans towards darker and more forceful club material, but the wider catalogue reflects an artist comfortable working across several electronic directions.
El Brujo and the Wild Bunch was created as a platform for DJs and producers connected with his wider circle. Each edition combines El Brujo’s own selections with a guest appearance, giving the programme room to explore different interpretations of Techno and related underground electronic music.
Episode 12 continues that format with guest DJ COACH joining the programme. El Brujo’s section draws on promos and material from collaborators associated with labels including Suara, Trench, Jambalay Records, LETS Techno and Starskream before handing over to the guest mix.
Guest DJ COACH (second hour)
This episode’s guest is COACH, the stage name of Montreal-based artist, producer, DJ and drummer Ryan Kennedy. His musical background began at an early age, and he first started DJing at fifteen while developing his skills privately at home.
That early interest gradually became more serious as he learned how rhythm, timing and track selection could shape a set. His experience as a drummer also gave him a natural understanding of percussion and groove, which later became central to the way he approached electronic music.
In 2012, COACH became increasingly involved with Montreal’s underground rave scene. Regular exposure to live crowds helped him refine his ability to read the room, match tracks effectively and build energy across longer sets.
That period established him more firmly within the local scene and helped develop the performance style for which he became known. Rather than relying on one fixed formula, he built his sets around movement, rhythm and a direct connection with the dancefloor.
His Beatport profile documents the production side of his work, while his DJ sets can also be explored through Mixcloud and SoundCloud. These platforms reflect the broad electronic range that runs through his work as both a DJ and producer.
House, Tech House and Techno sit at the centre of his musical style, although he remains open to other areas of electronic music. That flexibility gives his sets room to shift between groove-led material and harder club tracks without losing momentum.
COACH has built a reputation for energetic performances that favour movement and a strong rhythmic foundation. His sets are designed to keep the dancefloor engaged from the opening tracks through to the end, with a lively approach that reflects both his percussion background and his experience within the rave scene.
His relationship with the crowd remains an important part of that identity. Rather than treating DJing as a one-way performance, he responds to the energy in the room and uses that feedback to shape the direction of the set in real time.
El Brujo opens The Wild Bunch Episode 12 with DJQ's "Dark Voices" before Coyu's "Contraindication" on Suara strengthens the Techno foundation of the first hour. Sofia Alcon's remix of Petri Petro follows before DJ D ReDD and DJQ return the programme to a more direct underground drive through a pair of promotional cuts.
Makaja Gonzales, Chris van Deer and Emison continue the first-hour progression with material from PROMO and Trench, keeping the emphasis on dark percussion, weighty low end and stripped-back club pressure. DJ D ReDD and Makaja Gonzales then return for the closing stretch, giving El Brujo's section a compact, uncompromising finish before the second selector takes over.
COACH opens the second hour with both the original and his own remix of Dadgar's "24/7", immediately establishing a tougher Hard Techno direction. His remix of Machine John's "Nothing Is Real" and original track "I'm Trying" continue that harder run before Atroxx and another Dadgar remix increase the intensity through LETS Techno and Starskream.
Mayfie, UNDFND, Bip0lar and Three Faces Of Eve carry the final section through a sequence of forceful techno cuts before COACH closes the programme with "Let It Die". Across both hours, the episode moves from dark underground Techno into a harder and more aggressive second half, giving El Brujo and COACH clearly defined but complementary sections.
