DJ Joshua shares the track lists for his weekly Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Joshua Mar, known as DJ Joshua, is a Portuguese electronic music connoisseur from Évora whose interest in collecting music developed into a lasting passion for DJing. His musical interests range from House Music and Drum and Bass to Chillout, with Techno at the forefront of his fascination.
As a teenager in the early 1990s, he learned to DJ, became a vinyl digger and shared the birth of rave music and culture through local radio shows. He also played at events organised with friends and fellow ravers as his electronic obsession grew alongside Portugal's emerging rave scene.
Seeing a need for a media presence for electronic music on local airwaves, Joshua supported ravers in his community through radio and events. After the birth of his first child, he took time away from DJing to focus on fatherhood.
As his child grew, he returned to his primary musical focus and launched a new radio show, Floating Beats. Floating Beats and Velvety Elements are podcasts broadcast by online radio stations internationally.

Across his weekly programmes, Joshua presents House Music and Techno in forms including Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House and Melodic Techno. The paired selections show the breadth of the styles that inform his work behind the decks.
The Floating Beats selection opens with Narson Nelson's Bass in Space on Dubwise Records, establishing a Tech House foundation. Pekoe's Sapurra remix of Deserted Islands on MixCult Digital then turns towards Deep House.
Narson Nelson's Chanel No.87 on Drift Deeper Recordings and D.Noriega's Daniel Brooks remix of Deep on Kief Music bring in Deep Tech House. Standard Fair's Jun Akimoto and Ittetsu remix of Northern City, released through Recycle Records, returns the opening run to Tech House.
Luis Bravo and Daniel De Roma's Phrensy on Secret Jams Records and Taran & Lomov's Voltage on Ovum Recordings keep the deeper rhythmic focus in place. Nepton's Oliver Hess remix of Mull on Wald-Musik softens that passage with Deep House detail.
Tim Engelhardt's Maxie König remix of First Contact on Poker Flat Recordings introduces Melodic House and Techno. Octal Industries' Wildfire on Kontakt closes the Floating Beats section with Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic).
The Velvety Elements selection begins with Soulphiction's Ballin' on LW Recordings, moving into a warmer House Music direction. Marcus Holder's The Fluff on Dirt Crew Recordings follows with a Deep House groove.
Chris Stussy's Riva De Biasio on Kaoz Theory and ColorJaxx's Life on the Outside on House Cookin Records deepen the central section. DJ Pipe's Sky Lounge on Small Hours brings Tech House back into the sequence.
Franck Roger's Kings Gruv on Real Tone Records returns to Deep House before Ninetoes' Let U Go on Kaluki Musik adds a Tech House lift. Michel De Hey's Torre on MicroHertz leads into Anton Kubikov's Idealist remix of When Is Deep on AE Recordings, which reaches Peak Time Techno.
Kullat Nunu's AudiTech remix of Perfect Plan on Sequencer brings the second programme back to Deep Tech House, while Worker Union's Sugar Grove on High SeVen Records returns to House Music. Michael Watford's So Into You on EastWest Records America adds Garage House, before Yen Sung & Photonz's Still on Alphabet Street Music and Eric Kupper's Organism on TRIBAL close in House Music territory.
