DJ Joshua presents Floating Beats and Velvety Elements on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, comes from Évora, Portugal, and has a deep-rooted passion for electronic music. His collection of vinyl records and digital tracks covers Techno, House Music, Drum and Bass and Chillout.
During the 1990s, DJ Joshua contributed to Portugal's rave culture despite the resistance that rave music faced at the time. Community radio programmes and events helped him promote electronic music and gain recognition in Portugal and beyond.
After a period focused on family, he returned to music through his radio shows. Floating Beats occupies the first hour and draws on electronic music by artists including Ray Kajioka, The KLF, Eats Everything and James Solace.
The programme moves between Techno and House Music with an emphasis on varied selections. Velvety Elements follows in the second hour, exploring the soulful and emotive side of Deep House through artists including DJOKO, Paul Rudder and Diego Krause.
DJ Joshua is recognised for his meticulously curated music selection and transitions, which show his understanding of electronic music and its emotional pull. His programmes are available on Mixcloud, with tracklists providing a record of each selection.
Floating Beats opens with Matthieu Faubourg's Winter Will Be Long on Jazzy Couscous, establishing a Deep House foundation. Cinthie's 803 the Meme Queen on Aus Music strengthens that opening with another deep-house record.
Timid Boy brings Ceremony from Sacre Coeur Records into Tech House territory. Biz follows with Autumn Blues on Transmat, moving the first hour towards Peak Time Techno.
James Solace's Ghost Town on Last Night On Earth introduces Melodic House and Techno without losing the set's club focus. Ian O'Donovan and Breccia then bring The Island on Espai Music into Progressive House.
Yanix's Anton X remix of Auditive Act on Kanikule returns Floating Beats to Peak Time Techno. Hansgod's Highway to Love and Gregor Tresher and Petar Dundov's Palladium complete this section with a firmer electronic direction.
Velvety Elements begins its later selection with Arapu's Josip Petrov edit of Wasting, followed by Ed Herbst's Gavin Morley remix of Only You. Luis Bravo's Sorry The Name Is Too Long on Secret Jams Records and Vincent Casanova's Rough Splash on ebb + flow introduce Deep Tech House rhythms.
B&S Concept's Destination Y on Gents & Dandy's returns the hour to Deep House. Daniel Steinberg's Poolside on Arms & Legs adds a Nu-Disco change of pace.
Darius Syrossian's Prunk remix of Harlem Lights on MOXY MUZIK brings Deep Tech House back into focus. Demuir's Nice and Dutty (Howz Yo Bawdy II) on Robsoul Recordings shifts the groove towards Funky House.
Azymuth's Global Communication Space Jazz Mix of Jazz Carnival on NRK settles into Deep House before Miguel Lobo's What We Do on Purveyor Underground brings back Tech House. Mission Control's Outta Limits in the Shelter Mix on Esoteric Records introduces a RAW DJ Set reference, while Alex Maiz closes with the Deep House cut Walk on Earth on House Salad Music.
