DJ Joshua presents tracklists for his Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter that publishes a music-news platform for audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese electronic music specialist. His interest in the genre began in his hometown of Evora, where he built an extensive collection centred on Techno while exploring a diverse range of styles, including House, Drum and Bass and Chill-out.
Joshua's DJ career began in the early nineties, during the developing Portuguese rave scene. He became a familiar voice on local radio, sharing electronic music, organising events and helping to promote the sounds he valued.
His work helped build a community around electronic music in the area. After a brief break to embrace fatherhood, he returned to DJing and launched Floating Beats.
The programme reached audiences worldwide and established his position in the electronic music landscape. His selections draw on a broad range of sounds and energies within Techno and House.
As Joshua himself puts it: “Music is an art form. It’s the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move. This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and end up falling onto your body... Enjoy it.”
Floating Beats features artists including Diana Oliveira, Nick Curly and James Ruskin, with rhythm-led selections and hypnotic melodies. Velvety Elements follows a warmer route through Techno, Deep House and melodic House, with music from Nnatn Keep, Clive From Accounts and Arturo Murro.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Diana Oliveira's Stuck In My Head on Discotexas, introducing Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic). Van Czar's Owen Ni remix of Virus on Van Czar Series then moves into Deep Tech House, before Jorge Caiado's Dyed Soundorom remix of Try To Breathe on Groovement brings in House Music.
Nick Curly's Pleni on Natura Viva establishes the first Tech House passage, followed by Carlo Lio and Nathan Barato's Steven Taylor remix of Mainframe on Rawthentic Music (2). Luhk's Estranhos Minutos on Lethal Script Label returns the hour to Deep Tech House, giving the early run a deeper club focus.
Satoshi Tomiie's Late Night on Vatos Locos brings Tech House back into view before Ackermann's Whadat on UNCAGE returns to raw, deep and hypnotic Techno. Ian O'Donovan and Luca Gaeta's Tethra on 100% Pure raises the intensity through Peak Time Techno.
James Ruskin and Mark Broom's Latch on Blueprint Records brings the first hour back to raw, deep and hypnotic Techno. Queer On Acid's Houseum on Ovum Recordings and The Golden Boy's The Attacker on Under No Illusion close this section between focused Techno and Tech House.
In the second hour, an unclassified entry credited to Nnatn Keep precedes Clive From Accounts' Nagra on No Brainer Records. Arturo Murro's Housenation on Air Music follows in Deep House, establishing the warmer character of Velvety Elements.
Brown Vox's Menz & Womenz on Under No Illusion adds a Tech House edge before Ritz's Always on Piston Recordings introduces Funky House. Currents' What U Get on Brobot Records then returns to House Music without losing the hour's buoyant rhythmic direction.
Franck Roger's Deeper EP on Real Tone Records restores the Deep House emphasis. Kerouac Smile's Music Is My Weapon on Raw Level Records Black Series and Leon (Italy)'s Rip City on Moan take the middle of the programme through Deep Tech House.
After the intervening unclassified tracks, Youandewan's Cauliflower Wing on Small Hours returns to Tech House. Jason Hodges and Vincent Caira close Velvety Elements with Day in Paris on Robsoul Recordings, finishing in Funky House.
