DJ Joshua presents Floating Beats and Velvety Elements on Scientific Sound Asia, with the tracklists for both programmes gathered here. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Portuguese electronic music enthusiast DJ Joshua, also known as Joshua Mar in this article, comes from Évora. His fondness for electronic music developed while growing up in the city.
His interests expanded across House Music, Drum and Bass and Chillout, while Techno became the style closest to him. As his record collection grew, its influence helped him develop his own approach to DJing.
During the early 1990s, DJ Joshua began his musical path through Portugal's active rave culture. He shared electronic music on local radio programmes and organised events with like-minded people, recognising the value of bringing these newer electronic styles to a wider local audience.
After a period focused on family life, DJ Joshua returned to DJing and launched Floating Beats. The programme reached listeners internationally and established a place within electronic music culture.
As Joshua himself puts it: “Music is an art form. It’s the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move. This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and end up falling onto your body... Enjoy it.”
Floating Beats forms the first hour, with Basic 96, Okain and Mark Broom among the artists represented. Velvety Elements follows in the second hour, featuring Davyd M., Demuir and Mau Zeti in a deeper House-focused selection.
Together, the two tracklists show DJ Joshua moving between tougher electronic material and more introspective club music. They also point towards the newest electronic music trends through the selections documented below.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Basic 96's Intentions before Okain's Still Here on Talman Records establishes a Deep House foundation. Satoshi Tomiie's Out Of Nowhere on Vatos Locos then shifts the sequence towards Tech House.
Rub800's CMON on Small Hours keeps the Tech House direction in place. Womack's Sometimes and Kinn's Halycon extend the opening before the programme turns towards a more concentrated Techno section.
Andre Kronert's Purpose on Kneaded Pains introduces Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic). Roman Lindau follows with Borné on Delsin Records, bringing in Peak Time Techno.
Mark Broom's M28 on Gynoid Audio returns to Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic), while Forest On Stasys brings Peak Time Techno through Vacuumed Memories on Danza Nativa. Harrison BDP's Invisible in the Dark on Lost Palms softens the close before Luigi Tozzi's Blood Meridian on Attic Music finishes the first hour in Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) territory.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with Davyd M.'s Shmerteling on Kaizoku Beats Recordings, introducing House Music. Demuir's Passive Agitation in its Original Dub on Sola sustains that approach, before Brown Vox's Menz & Womenz on Under No Illusion brings Tech House into the mix.
Arturo Murro's Housenation on Air Music returns the programme to Deep House. Mau Zeti's Inscape on Conceptual Deep adds Deep Tech House, while Nnatn's Love Me To on Night Vibez Records restores the Deep House focus.
Joey Beltram's Future Groove and Scope's Frequencies in the 0.003 Mix provide the next part of the hour. Jason Hodges and Vincent Caira's Just Do You on Robsoul Recordings then supplies the set's Funky House entry.
Intr0beatz's You Know 106 on Cosmic Angles brings Deep House back into view before Nick Curly's Mute Navigator. Ritz closes Velvety Elements with Call Me on Piston Recordings, ending on Deep Tech House.
