DJ Gerard presents The Hit List 1 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Gerard, also known as Tim Jones of DeviceRATT, is a producer and DJ working across deep house, deep tech, tech house and techno. His interest in electronic music informs both his own productions and the selections heard in his shows.
For this first edition, Gerard selected tracks made under his various aliases alongside work by other artists. The programme sets out his preference for house-rooted club music and shifting electronic styles.
His inspirations include John Digweed, Sebastian Leger, Thomas Schumacher, Dubfire, Maceo Plex, Hot Since 82, Nora En Pure, Adriatique, Tom Demac, DJ Dan and DJ Foxx. Originally from Tampa, Florida, Tim began his career with F.L.I. Records, the Miami-based label, as part of DeviceRATT in 2003.
He dedicated himself to electronic music and developed his craft through the South Florida scene. His performances included Treehouse, Nocturnal and The Nest, as well as Ultra in 2011 and Internet radio appearances.
Tim began performing as Gerard in 2014 and released a debut EP on Aerotek Records. He has also released EPs through Making You Dance, Pure Pitch, LTHM, BPM Recordz, Karmak and White Minds.
At the time of publication, Gerard was based in China and worked with the DJ agency Scientific Sound Asia. He was preparing to perform in China and held the role of Nu Disco manager for Brasbeat, described as Latin America's first and only digital source for electronic music.
He hosts a regular podcast and mix show built around his monthly charted music. Gerard also has a monthly show on Mixcloud.com.
Gerard describes the response to his original music as a central motivation for his work. “I love making this music,” he says, continuing “I love the culture and the feeling I get when I see the party jamming out to one of my originals for the first time. That alone is like a high. The thought of sharing my music and my sound with the world is my biggest motivator.”
His releases, aliases and DJ sets place original productions alongside club-focused selections. The Hit List 1 provides an early document of that approach.
DJ Gerard's The Hit List show 1 episode begins with DeviceRATT and Laidback Prince's Gotta Get It, a House Music cut on LTHM. DeviceRATT follows with New Beginnings on BPM Recordz, bringing a more tech-house direction into the opening stretch.
Austin Ato's Ben's Groove on Me Me Me introduces Deep House before ANOTR's Bad Horn on NO ART (Armada Music) tightens the rhythm with Tech House. Anja Schneider's Coast Ride, issued through Armada Music Albums, returns to the deeper side of the programme.
Denis Naidanow featuring Tyree Cooper's Wonderland (2015 Remix) leads into Hauswerks' After Dark on Moon Harbour Recordings. Chus & Ceballos then bring Ain't Nobody from Knee Deep In Sound, extending the tech house focus.
Gerard's own Testament in Ben A's remix appears via Aerotek Recordings, followed by DeviceRATT's Glamorous PillowFace mashup. DeviceRATT and Laidback Prince's Back Next Month keeps the producer's catalogue in view before Solardo's Be Somebody on Ultra.
Audiojack's Reverie on Crosstown Rebels introduces Organic House, while Dennis Cruz's Samu.l remix of Feeling High on Suruba X restores a tougher club rhythm. Jen Haynes' Late Night Story follows before the set turns towards more melodic material.
Archila's Unknown remix on Descend Records brings Melodic House and Techno into the final section, with Ramon Tapia's Hexagon on Truesoul adding another Tech House record. Darko Milosevic and Nick Devon's Void on Steyoyoke and Arm In Arm's Moonwalk remix of Hunger For Your Vibe on Blaufield Music sustain that melodic emphasis before Medu closes with Synthetically Embodied, a Deep Tech House track on Rewire Musik.
