circle. presented its 247th edition on Scientific Sound Asia, with a first-hour mix from founder Pete Bidwell and a guest mix by Robert Van Ryn. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
circle. was established by Pete Bidwell, who held residencies at different Ibiza venues for many years. The programme presents artists and exclusive guest mixes, and has connections and collaborations with a range of internationally recognised DJs and producers.
Pete's first-hour mix includes material from Luigi Gori, Larsun Hesh and Frankye Lova, alongside tracks by Prop & Ganda and Fabian Vieregge. It begins with a Dennis Cruz track and also features releases associated with Dear Deer, Nulab and Cinematique.
Guest Mix by Robert Van Ryn. His set forms the second part of this edition.
At the time of this 2019 broadcast, circle. was featuring live sets from the recent circle. Ibiza on tour event across that week and forthcoming episodes. Robert Van Ryn provided the second set and was the winner of the Bristol DJ competition.
Robert toured extensively in the UK and Europe from the late 1990s until 2005, including summers in Corfu, Cyprus, Crete and Ibiza. He was one of four resident tour DJs for the Euphoria album series.
In 2005, he retired from DJing despite industry recognition for his ability to work a crowd. His enthusiasm for music was evident in his sets, helping establish his reputation as a charismatic figure.
Robert returned to his trance roots in late 2011, performing at Ministry of Sound and Slinky. By 2013, he had moved towards tech house and techno and secured a WERK residency, playing alongside Da Fresh, Loco & Jam, Colin Dale, Dave Angel and Trevor Rockcliffe.
At the time of publication, Robert was a resident DJ at Bristol's Banjax night. Across Bristol clubs, he supported Mark Knight, Doorly, Prok & Fitch, Juliet Fox, Seff, Cristoph, Mihalis Safras, Steve Lawler and D-Ramirez.
The selection opens with Dennis Cruz's Get Them Up on MÜSE, establishing a Tech House foundation. Sebas Ramos follows with Puzzled Vision on Conjured Records, bringing Melodic House and Techno into the early sequence.
Neil Cowley's DFAM on Mote leads into Luigi Gori, Larsun Hesh and Frankye Lova's I'm Never Tired on Dear Deer. Gabriel Moraes then brings Opposite from Bassic Records into Peak Time Techno territory.
Paul Sawyer, Giapan and Marco Bartolucci's Alchemy on ICONYC introduces Progressive House before Prop & Ganda's Cygnus X on Nulab returns to melodic house and techno. Recode's Irreale on Infinite Depth keeps that melodic emphasis in place for the next passage.
Christopher Coe and The Upstarters raise the pressure with Pick Up The Phone on Awesome Sound Wave. Fabian Vieregge closes the listed sequence with Intuitive on Cinematique, easing the set towards Deep House.
