Bipolar Bear and G Nomad present BADABOOM 02 on Scientific Sound Asia, a programme built around the pair's Badaboom party concept. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
The show features a back-to-back set from Badaboom founders Bipolar Bear and G Nomad, bringing together dancefloor selections in the spirit of their events. Its playlist spans afro-deep house, global electronic music and cosmic disco, alongside funk, soul and rare groove influences.
Bipolar Bear, real name Stefan Paunescu, is a Romanian DJ from the small provincial city of Craiova in the south of the country. Growing up there, the teenage Stefan had limited options for buying cutting-edge music, particularly in the former Eastern Bloc, where musical influences often came through MTV.
With the birth and development of the internet, Bipolar Bear was able to explore many genres and witness the digital transformation of music. A Romanian DJ and producer with a passion for producing and playing quality music, he builds eclectic sets intended to guide an audience through his selections.
His aim is to spread positive energy through his work. After leaving Romania and carving his way into Manchester's music scene as a DJ and producer, his project Odwana combined electronic dance music with world sounds, African percussion and empowering vocals, gaining attention on the UK festival circuit.
In early 2019, he relocated to Da Nang, Vietnam, and established the party brand Badaboom with fellow DJ G Nomad, with the aim of raising the profile of central Vietnam's party scene. The Badaboom radio show shares the spirit of their events and their wish to bring music to a community of like-minded people.
Badaboom draws on a wide range of music, from funk, soul and rare groove to more experimental electronic sounds. For the last decade, Da Nang-based French DJ and producer G Nomad, also known as Gigimix, has worked to establish himself on the Vietnamese scene.
Growing up with turntablism at the centre of his musical interests, G Nomad is a digger who holds an impressive collection of House, Disco, Funk, Hip-Hop, Reggae and electronic music. Since 2012, he has played more than 1,000 shows across France, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and South Africa.
He also founded the Vietnam-based Banana Hustle DJ crew and Da Nang's Badaboom music collective. Together, Bipolar Bear and G Nomad bring their shared record knowledge and event background to this edition.
Bipolar Bear and G Nomad's BADABOOM 02 episode opens with Suonho's Barra Limpa (Natural Latinjazz Touch), before Kiwi's Midnight Driver on Future Disco introduces Indie Dance. Spaniol's Praah Com Poesia on Shika Shika brings a Downtempo turn, followed by El Buga's Afro Club on Shango Records and its Deep House feel, then Sabo's Force 4 Movement on Sol Selectas moves into Tech House.
Alma Negra's Luanda Dub, released through Heist Recordings, keeps the house rhythm in place before Ekambi Brillant's Afrika Afrika (John Talabot & Pional 'Lost Scripts' Rerub) on Africa Seven brings African material into view. Ivan Conti's Jazzanova remix of Katmandu, on Far Out Recordings, then introduces Nu-Disco with a jazz-informed edge.
Majid Bekkas's Cervo edit of Mrhaba on Banana Hill and Gabriele Poso's Batik on Soundway Records place Afro House at the centre of the set. Yaaba Funk's Ben Gomori edit of Hwe Hwe Mu Na Yi Wompena on Sterns Edits sustains that approach, before Souleance's Les Amis on First Word Records brings in Breaks and Austin Ato's vocal mix of Music Will Save The Day returns to Deep House on Futureboogie Recordings.
Hans Nieswandt and Eric D Clark's No More Hatin & Trashin in its Original Rave Mix, issued by Footjob, shifts the pace towards Disco. 12 Tree's Sugamomma on Hot Piroski follows in the same register, while Did Virgo and Arthur Johnson's Glass Wool Acts on La dame Noir Records returns to Indie Dance.
Fred und Luna's People Mambo on Compost and Ninze's Nicola Cruz remix of Oh, I Get Hugh on Feines Tier take the programme into Electronica. Benjamin Fröhlich's Dream City on Permanent Vacation restores the Indie Dance thread, before Devin Dare's On Somebody on La Mission heads back towards Disco and Cos Ber Zam's Daphni Mix of Ne Noya on Jiaolong revisits Breaks.
Underground System's Soul Clap vs. Midnight Magic remix of Just a Place, released through Soul Clap Records, gives the final stretch another Nu-Disco lift. The set closes with Unknown Artist's PJT on Schenkelspreizer, ending on a direct Disco selection.
