Bicycle Corporation publishes track-list for ‘Roots’ 024 show

Bicycle Corporation presents episode 24 of Roots on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter, as well as a music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.

Bicycle Corporation is an electronic duo comprising Italian DJ and producer Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Together, they have released well over 50 tracks across Tech House, French House and Techno.

In the early 1990s, Marco began his musical career as a DJ. He organised events with the Urban People collective throughout Italy.

This work brought recognition and later led to a residency at Pacha in Egypt. The residency brought international bookings and took him to audiences around the world.

Stefano, who grew up in Torino, Italy, showed musical talent from a young age. He studied classical piano, percussion and drums, with particular enjoyment for the works of Chopin and West African djembes.

During his early years, the image of a DJ spinning records became increasingly compelling to the teenage Stefano. The electronic beats that were difficult to find on Italian radio in the 1990s opened a completely new chapter in his life.

The tracklist below represents the roots of Bicycle Corporation's sound and the styles that have informed its electronic releases. Those influences include Funk, Disco, Soul, Afrobeat, Electro, Rare Groove, Hip Hop and Afrocentric music, while Bicycle Corporation are available for booking through our DJ agency in Asia.

Bicycle Corporation's Roots episode 24 opens with Rolf Trostel's Digital Track on Bureau B, an Electro (Classic / Detroit / Modern) piece. Thomas Mapfumo's Shumba (Daphni Edit), Paulinho Da Costa's Terra and Burundi Steïphenson Black's Burundi Black follow in sequence.

Mistura Fina's Isto Eì O Que Eì A Batucada is followed by Gal Costa's Aquarela Do Brasil on UME - Global Clearing House and Airto Moreira's Toque De Cuica (Discobody Edit). These Brazilian selections lead into Decimo's Theme From Shaft (Disco Version), bringing Disco into the programme.

Bernard's Song (V - Sanson) Thoma Cher Edit leads into Brian Briggs' Aeo on Rhino, a Rock selection, before Les Negresses Vertes' Zobi La Mouch on Rhythm King turns towards Downtempo. Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg's Je T'aime... Moi Non-Plus on Fontana supplies the Soft Rock contrast within this section.

Otis Redding's Tramp is paired with Orfeu Negro's Bajao Rojao Maracatu and G.b.'s Samba De Rio. Voyage's Point Zero on BMG Rights Management France SARL then introduces the set's Nu-Disco turn.

CJ & Co's We Got Our Own Thing (Mighty Mouse Dub Edit) precedes Krewcial Feat. Fela's Mabina on Midnight Riot, where Afrobeat comes to the fore through a Afrobeat reference. Maw Expensive's Maw Pres. A Tribute To Fela (Dimitri From Paris Remix) and Joaquin Joe Claussell's Makussa Pt Three (Afrikan Basement Extended Demo Mix) deepen the House Music presence.

Stargard's Theme Song From Which Way Is Up sets up Sylvester's I Need Somebody To Love Tonight on Craft Recordings, an Indie Dance highlight. Mike Francis closes the episode with Survivor (Original 12 Version), giving the final transition the space of its full-length 12-inch format.
