Bicycle Corporation guests DJ Chemical Oli and Bassman will be presenting the next 'Electronic Roots' show. Scientific Sound Asia is the Asian electronic music station for the region and internationally.

Bicycle Corporation is an Italian duo of the DJ and Producer Marco MEI plus the skilled Stefano Ugliano aka 6884. In the early nineties, Marco was starting on his musical journey as a DJ and producer and began doing his events as a crew known as 'Urban People' across the whole of Italy. This earned him recognition and he earned a residency at Pacha, which in turn led to him getting DJ bookings internationally, and launched him on a musical journey around the globe.

Born and brought up in Torino, Italy, Stefano in his childhood displayed a wealth of abilities with music. He studied with passion classical piano, percussion, and drums, he loved his Chopin's and West African Djembe, but that figure of the disc jockey rearing the crowd proved more and more enchanting for the teenage Stefano.

He wondered if those very electronic beats, so hard to find on ‘90s Italian radio stations, were going to open a completely new chapter in his life and then Bicycle Corporation evolved. Recently they have revisited their first tracks and have set up a Bandcamp page to distribute them.

This week's guests are Chemical Oli and Bassman, Chemical Oli is a British DJ who has been spinning as a DJ for over 20 years. Influenced by a myriad of music styles growing up, Oli started off as a DJ in Edinburgh, promoting club nights and playing Drum and Bass and Jungle sets.

'Chemical Oli's sets are a vinyl-only mix of Funk, Disco, Soul, Afrobeat, House & Techno. A move to Asia in 2010 and a developing musical style led to him diversifying his sound to include elements of Funk, Disco & House Music.

Living in Shanghai, he played at most of the clubs there, holding down a resident at URVC and playing as part of the collective Changhai Wax. Now living on the East Coast of Taiwan, he is part of the Musikbox Soundsystem collective bringing dance music culture to Taitung.

Tom Bassman is a Kaohsiung based DJ originally from the UK. Growing up in the UK rave scene in the nineties he imbibed the fresh dance music culture of the time and became a DJ at an early age playing across the North of England.

After leaving the UK to go travelling, he played at parties across Asia before settling in Taiwan where he was involved with the birth of the dance music scene in Kaohsiung. Fast forward to the present day, Tom is now a stalwart of the scene in Kaohsiung and across Taiwan, playing a mix of Funk, Disco, Afrobeat, Tropical Disco and Afrodisco all on vinyl.

Listen live on Wednesday 8th of June 2022 from 6 PM to 8 PM Indochina Time (ICT) and repeat Sunday from 6 AM to 8 AM (ICT).
