Bicycle Corporation present Roots episode 033 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform, as well as a DJ agency connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is an Italian duo of the DJ and producer Marco Mei plus the skilled Stefano Ugliano aka 6884. As a pair, they have released over 50 original works and remixes across the spectrum of House and Techno.
Marco embarked on his musical journey as a DJ in the early nineties, captivated by the emergence of Electronic music and Afrocentric sounds. Following his introduction to the scene, he initiated his own events under the banner of Urban People, spanning across Italy.
His talent as a DJ brought him fame, leading to a residency at Pacha, Egypt. This opportunity not only boosted his reputation but also opened doors for international DJ gigs, launching him on a global musical journey.
Stefano was born and raised in Torino, Italy, where he showed remarkable musical talent from a young age. He enthusiastically pursued classical piano, percussion, and drums, developing a fondness for Chopin's compositions and the complex rhythms of the West African Djembe.
Nevertheless, as he matured, his interest in music blossomed, particularly captivated by the sight of the electronic DJ energizing the audience. Little did he realize that those elusive electronic beats, rarely heard on '90s Italian radio, would lead to a completely new phase in his life.
The track list represents the roots of Bicycle Corporation's sound and the genres that have informed their electronic releases, including Funk, Disco, Soul, Afrobeat, Electro, Rare Groove, Hip Hop and Afrocentric music. Bicycle Corporation is available for booking via our DJ agency for Asia.
Bicycle Corporation's Roots episode 033 opens with Bob Marley's Is This Love (V's Raw Mix), bringing a Reggae foundation to the selection. The Doors' Peace Rogue (Edit), issued on Vehicle (2), follows with a Disco-leaning change of texture.
The Floaters featuring Woodhead's Floating On A Dream and Kongas' Ahikana - O (Savannah Ride Edit) extend the early run before Fela Kuti's Impossible brings Afrobeat into focus. J Hammond's Fantasy, on Juno, and Chevals' Too Many Strings on Sundries Digital introduce the more contemporary dancefloor edits.
Chevals' track establishes the episode's Nu-Disco thread, while James Brown's Give It Up (Mr K Edit) returns the set to a tougher Funk rhythm. The Sisters Love's Give Me Your Love and The Isley Brothers' Work 2 Do place vocal Soul alongside the record-focused edits.
Brass Construction's Movin, released on Capitol Records, holds the groove before Idris Muhammad's Could Heaven Ever Be Like This (Correlate Edit) on Fresh Take introduces a Jazz Music-informed Funk element. Liquid Liquid's Cavern Dance then changes the atmosphere, placing its taut percussion beside Chuck Brown featuring The Silver Rider's Burro E Somburro (TSR Extended Edit).
Manu Di Bongo's Big Flow (Can't Cool Edit) restores an Afrobeat emphasis before Liaisons Dangereuses' Los Niños Del Parque (S.Ritteri Edit) introduces an Electro edge. These edits keep the selection moving between rhythmic source material and stripped-back electronic treatment without losing its emphasis on the original records.
Universal Robot Band's Dance & Shake Your Tambourine, on Unidisc Music, leads into War's Low Ride with a final run of Funk-led rhythm. Bill Withers' live Use Me and Midnight City's Baby Let Me Kiss You bring the episode to a vocal-led close.
