Bicycle Corporation announces track-list for ‘Roots’ 032

Bicycle Corporation present Roots 032 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter that publishes music news for audiences across Asia and internationally.

Bicycle Corporation is the Italian partnership of DJ and producer Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Together, they have produced more than 50 original tracks and remixes across House and Techno.

In the early 1990s, Marco began his musical career as a DJ, drawn to the emergence of electronic and Afrocentric music. He later hosted techno and house events across Italy under the Urban People collective name.

His work as a DJ led to a residency with the nightclub and event brand Pacha in Egypt. The residency brought international DJ bookings and marked the beginning of his work beyond Italy.

Stefano was born and raised in Torino, Italy, and showed musical ability from an early age. He studied classical piano, percussion and drums, while developing an appreciation for Chopin and the West African djembe.

As he grew older, Stefano became increasingly interested in the electronic DJs he saw performing to audiences. The electronic beats seldom heard on Italian radio during the 1990s opened a new phase in his life.

Roots explores the foundational influences that have informed Bicycle Corporation's electronic releases, from Funk, Disco and Soul to Afrobeat and Electro. The selection also reaches into Rare Groove, Hip Hop and Afrocentric sounds, and Bicycle Corporation are available for booking via our DJ agency for Asia.

Bicycle Corporation's Roots 032 episode, aired on 26 January 2020, opens with Richie Bell's Funky Celebration before Bohannon's Groove Machine on HEROES Music Fund. Average White Band's Work 2 Do, released through Late Night Tales, brings in Nu-Disco alongside the set's R&B foundations.

CJ & Co's We Got Out Own Thing in the Mighty Mouse Dub Edit and Cerrone's Supernature in the Barry&Gibbs Edit extend the opening run of reworked dancefloor material. Candido's Dimitri From Paris DMC Remix of Jingo, on Ultra, then gives way to Chaz Jankel's Rêve De Chèvre from Tirk Records, a point of Indie Dance contrast.

Airto Moreira's Peasant Dance on Salvation (4) introduces Brazilian jazz instrumentation before James Con Hielo Band's Poco A Poco on M Records (3). The latter leads naturally into Latin Music, while Gal Costa's Aquarela Do Brasil on UME - Global Clearing House gives the programme a distinct Brazilian focus.

James Brown's Get Up Offa That Thing, issued by Volcano, returns the selection to a direct rhythmic charge before KC & The Sunshine Band's BC Edit of I'm Your Boogie Man. Konk's Your Life follows on Unleashed Music, with T-Connection's Do What U Wanna Do Edit and Quel Tal America's Better Days Dub Mix sustaining the extended groove.

T-Connection's Radio 7 Edit of Do Whatcha Like precedes The Police's Mr K 7 Edit of When The World Is Runnin' Down, released through Most Excellent Unlimited. Tony Allen With Afrobeat 2000's Nepa on Earthworks follows, and War's Good Old Boys Edit of Galaxy keeps the rhythm-led emphasis in place.

XTC's It's Nearly Africa on Virgin Records moves into a sharper rock-informed register before Anna's Systems Breaking Down on Disco Hustle Records adds an Italo Disco turn. Wally Badarou's Kiss Me Now, Beat The Drum's Try on Metronome and The Durutti Column's Sketch For A Summer on Durutti bring Roots 032 to a measured close.
