Bicycle Corporation presented Foundations episode 10 on Scientific Sound Asia, with the programme’s playlist documenting the records that informed their sound. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across the region and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is the Italian partnership of DJ and producer Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Formed in 2009, the duo has released more than fifty productions and remixes across Deep House, Tech House, French House and Techno.
Marco began his musical career as a DJ and producer in the early 1990s, organising events across Italy through the Urban People collective. That work brought recognition and led to a residency at Pacha in Sharm el-Sheikh, followed by international bookings.
Born and raised in Torino, Stefano showed an aptitude for music from an early age and studied classical piano, percussion and drums. His interests included Chopin and West African djembe, influences that later informed his approach to electronic production.
As a teenager, Stefano was drawn to the image of the DJ holding a crowd’s attention, while electronic beats were still uncommon on Italian radio in the 1990s. That fascination opened a new chapter in his life and ultimately contributed to the development of Bicycle Corporation.
Foundations examines the records and styles behind the duo’s electronic releases, including Funk, Disco, Soul, Afrobeat, Electro, Rare Groove, Hip Hop and Afrocentric music, as well as Jazz Fusion. Bicycle Corporation are available for booking via our DJ agency for Asia.
Based in Taipei, Marco works across a wider South East Asian network while broadcasting weekly through the Scientific Sound Asia radio station. Together, Bicycle Corporation draw on club music, global rhythm and decades of recorded music in their productions and programme selections.
Bicycle Corporation’s Foundations episode 10 playlist opens with African Head Charfe and Jimi Bazzouka’s Stebeniest, before Airto Moreira’s Circo Maribondo (Dan Shake Cut) introduces Brazilian influence. Alexny and Asphalt Jungle’s Freakin Time follows with a Dance Music pulse, while Black Blood’s A.I.E. (A Mwana), released on Milestone Records, brings African music into the opening run.
Martin Circus’s Circus Dub, B.C. Cunningham’s Let It All Hang Out (Jr. Lego Edit) and Bobby Byrd and Jacques Renault’s Hot Pants... keep the early section rooted in rhythm and edits. Barrabas’s Woman (Marvin & Guy Kinda Edit) and Boo Williams’s Erotic Drum Band Action 78 lead into Cerrone’s Woman (Dr Doo Dah), an Indie Dance selection from Malligator Productions and Because Music.
Coldbeard’s A Funky Situation on Daje Funk Records gives the middle passage a Disco lift, before De Gama’s 1972 on Samosa Records brings in an Afrobeat classic. Dolores Vargas’s Achilipú (Made To Dance Edit) is followed by Fern Kinney’s Groove Me (Re Edit), with the latter retaining the Disco lineage of its T.K. Disco release.
Gal Costa’s Agosto Damor (Lego Re-Edit) and Gilberto Gil and Yse Saint Laur'ant’s Maracatu Atomico deepen the Brazilian presence. Hamilton Bohannon’s The Groove Machine and The Party Train, Pt. 1, 2 & 3 then bring the set back to Funk, with Hotmood’s Cerveza extending the dancefloor focus.
James Brown’s James! (LTJ Edit Rework) supplies another Funk staple before Jasper Van't Hof's Pili Pili’s Hoomba Hoomba (Jepe Edit) shifts the percussion and arrangement. Bill Withers’s You Got It Stuff, released on Columbia, adds Soul to the later stretch, while Naná Vasconcelos’s Bush Dance (Hotaru Edit) returns to a Brazilian rhythmic sensibility.
Ofra Haza’s Im Nin'alu (Radial Gaze Edit) and Radiant’s Dance De Corrals bring a more electronic edge before Disco Halal’s Hamathil (Red Axes Edit) changes the texture again. Timmy Thomas’s Africano (LTJ Rework Edit), Tony Orlando’s Don't Let Go and Ray Mang and Bar Kays’ Holy Ghost close Foundations episode 10 with edits and groove-focused selections drawn from several musical traditions.
