Malaysian DJ and producer Terence C joins Bicycle Corporation for Roots episode 77 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is the Italian collaboration between DJ and producer Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Together, they have released more than 50 original compositions and remixes across House and Techno.
In the early 1990s, Marco began DJing as Electronic music and Afrocentric sounds emerged around him. He went on to organise House Music and Techno events through Urban People, a collective that became prominent across Italy.
Marco's work behind the decks led to a residency at Pacha in Egypt. The role brought wider recognition and opened the way to international DJ bookings.
Born in Torino, Italy, Stefano showed an early aptitude for music. He studied classical piano, percussion and drums, drawing inspiration from Chopin's compositions and the rhythms of West African djembe.
As Stefano matured, he became increasingly drawn to the image of the electronic DJ commanding a crowd. The electronic beats that had initially been difficult to find on Italian radio in the 1990s marked a transformative period in his life.
Marco and Stefano have revisited some of their earlier tracks, considering their musical development over time. They established a Bandcamp page to distribute this material.
Through their weekly Roots radio show, Marco and Stefano showcase Asian artists whose engagement with Afrocentric sounds has informed their electronic music careers. For this edition, Terence C presented a programme spanning House Music and Techno while retaining a connection to those Afrocentric influences.

Terence is leading the charge in organising monthly Techno events at Zouk, aptly named 'We Love Techno', alongside one of Kuala Lumpur's most prominent figures, DJ XU. These events are dedicated to showcasing underground sounds, drawing inspiration from labels such as Drumcode, Cocoon Recordings, and many others. With a focus on the raw and cutting-edge elements of Techno, 'We Love Techno' promises to immerse attendees in an electrifying atmosphere.
Beginning his journey in 1998 under the guidance of DJ Chris Doss, Terence swiftly made his mark on the music scene, securing residencies at renowned venues such as Cubeat and Globar. His talent and dedication were evident from the start, foreshadowing a promising trajectory in his career. However, a significant turning point came when he landed a coveted warm-up slot for the esteemed David Morales during his inaugural Malaysian performance.

Since then, Terence has been a ubiquitous presence across the city, gracing venues such as Backroom, Nouvo, and Atmosphere.
Terence's influence extends beyond Malaysia, encompassing Southeast Asia as well. His performances at renowned venues such as Lush in Singapore and Liquid in Ho Chi Minh City have solidified his presence across the region. In a notable collaboration in 2005, Terence joined forces with artists Callen Tham and Digital to establish Altered Image, a groundbreaking audio-visual collective that pushed the boundaries of conventional artistic expression.
Altered Image revolutionized the artistic landscape by blending cinematic visuals, turntable beats, and live effects, resulting in mixes that were both pioneering and faithful to their roots on the dance floor.
