Bicycle Corporation return with Roots episode 132, this time featuring guest DJ Murphy Kin, also known as DJ Lucy, on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform serving listeners across the region and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is the Italian duo formed by Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, better known as 6884. Together they have built a catalogue of more than fifty original productions and remixes spanning House, Deep House, Tech House, French House, melodic electronic music and Techno.
Marco began his career in Turin during the early 1990s, developing his musical identity through both electronic music and Afrocentric influences. He later established the Urban People collective, combining DJing with promotion and event organisation while presenting House and Techno events across Italy.
Record collecting also became an important part of Marco's development, giving him a broader perspective than the club records he was playing at the time. That interest in African, Disco, Funk and electronic music would later become particularly relevant to the wider selections presented through Bicycle Corporation's Roots series.
His growing reputation eventually led to a residency with Pacha in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. That experience strengthened his international profile and opened the way for further bookings across Europe, Asia and other parts of the global club circuit.
Stefano grew up in Turin and showed considerable musical ability from an early age, studying classical piano, percussion and drums. His influences ranged from Chopin to West African djembe, giving him a broad understanding of melody and rhythm before electronic music became his primary focus.
During the 1990s, Stefano became increasingly fascinated by the electronic music that remained difficult to hear on mainstream Italian radio. That curiosity eventually led him towards production and the technical side of creating the sounds that had captured his attention.
When Stefano met Marco, the pair discovered a shared understanding of electronic music and began working together as Bicycle Corporation. Marco's experience as a DJ and Stefano's musical and production background gave the project a flexible foundation for exploring a wide range of club and electronic styles.
Their work has since appeared across numerous international labels while the pair have continued producing, remixing and developing radio projects together. The duo have also revisited earlier material and made selected productions available through their Bandcamp page.
Roots gives Bicycle Corporation space to move beyond their own productions and focus on the records, influences and musical traditions that helped shape their development. Episode 132 continues that approach with Murphy Kin, also known as DJ Lucy, adding another perspective to a series built around the deeper foundations behind contemporary electronic music.

This week’s guest is Murphy Kin, also known as DJ Lucy, a selector and producer whose background in the film industry strongly influences the way he approaches music. Rather than treating a DJ set as a fixed sequence of club tracks, he builds performances around mood, tension and narrative development.
His musical outlook is deliberately broad and driven by constant curiosity for unfamiliar sounds. A Murphy Kin set can begin with romantic Rock, old-school material or R&B before moving through Disco, Indie, Rock and Dance music as the energy gradually develops.
That cinematic approach gives his performances a clear sense of progression, with quieter passages and changes in mood given as much importance as the eventual climax. He does not rely on an immediate four-to-the-floor structure, instead allowing rhythm and atmosphere to emerge according to the direction of the set.
His wider influences include Hip Hop, Rock, Punk, Indie Rock and Jazz alongside electronic and dance music. The ability to move between these areas gives him considerable freedom as a selector and allows unexpected combinations to appear without losing the emotional thread connecting the records.
Since 2015, Murphy Kin has led Ting Ting Disco, a collective that developed through parties at bars, pubs, clubs and other venues in Taipei and Shanghai. The project subsequently expanded into other Chinese cities and began touring more widely across Asia from 2017.
In 2021, Ting Ting Disco extended its activity into online music releases, creating another outlet for the collective beyond physical events. The intention was to bring together productions and influences from different parts of the world while continuing the open-ended musical approach already established through its parties.
Murphy Kin applies the same flexibility to his live performances and avoids working from an inflexible script. The audience, room and atmosphere can all influence where the music goes, with some sets responding closely to the crowd while others are directed more deliberately towards a particular emotional conclusion.
This unpredictability is central to his identity as DJ Lucy and helps explain the connection between his film background and his work behind the decks. Each performance is treated less like a conventional genre-based DJ set and more like a sequence of scenes, with music used to establish character, tension, movement and release.
His appearance on Roots is particularly suited to that approach because the programme gives guests space to explore the music behind their current club identity. Murphy Kin can draw from Rock, R&B, Hip Hop, Jazz, Disco, Indie and Dance music while revealing the wider influences that have shaped both DJ Lucy and the Ting Ting Disco project.
Murphy Kin, also known as DJ Lucy, opens Bicycle Corporation Roots 132 with Larry Gus' remix of Did's "Skills" before the Flight Facilities treatment of Paul Simon and Soul Cheikh moves the set towards a playful crossover between Indie Dance and house. Boe & Zak's "Looking For Love" strengthens that dancefloor direction with a disco-inflected House Music groove, while Karen Carpenter and Nandi Madina soften the sequence with a more soulful touch.
Parra for Cuva's "Swept Away" and "Wicked Games" bring a warmer electronic character into the set before Sally Shapiro introduces the polished melodies of Synth Pop. DJ Eric, PacificUV and Louis La Roche's remix of One Direction keep the middle section deliberately eclectic, moving between Electronica, club music and the glossy disco-derived production that has long blurred the line between edits and contemporary Nu Disco.
Oby Onyioha's "I Want To Feel Your Love" brings the original Disco tradition firmly into view before Nicolas, Namy and Moodymanc's Higher State Mix of Nikola Gala draw the programme back towards Deep House. Nôze with dOP and Moullinex continue the shift into underground European club music, while the unidentified selections leave parts of Murphy Kin's journey deliberately unresolved rather than inviting unsupported track information.
The closing section reconnects with disco and funk through Bileo and Chic before Chromeo's "Bonafied' Lovin" in the RAC mix brings another modern electronic interpretation of those influences. Depeche Mode and Desire return to synth-driven territory, Clara Moto adds a more leftfield electronic turn, and the breaks re-edit of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Nashville Blues" finishes the known portion of the set with Breaks rather than a predictable return to four-to-the-floor rhythm.
