Bicycle Corporation present Roots 27, their third show with guest DJ Louis Chen, on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is the Italian partnership of DJ and producer Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, who is also known as 6884. Their shared work has produced more than 50 original tracks and remixes, with House and Techno among the styles associated with the project.
The duo draw on varied styles and influences in building Bicycle Corporation's musical identity. Collaboration and exploration have been central to their approach to electronic music.
Marco Mei began DJing and producing in the early 1990s, following an early interest in music. He also organised the Urban People event series across Italy, bringing together listeners from different backgrounds.
That work raised his profile in Italy and led to a residency at Pacha in Egypt. The residency opened the way to international DJ bookings and further experience abroad.
Stefano Ugliano was born in Torino, Italy, and showed a strong affinity for music from an early age. He studied classical piano, percussion and drums, while Chopin's compositions were an important influence.
Alongside classical music, Stefano developed an interest in the rhythms of West African Djembes. His fascination with electronic music during the 1990s, and his meeting with Marco, led to the formation of Bicycle Corporation.
Roots provides a setting for Bicycle Corporation and its guests to share music beyond a single club format. Louis Chen's contribution brings his interest in funk and soul to this edition.

DJ Louis, whose real name is Louis Chen, is a consistent performer and key figure in Taipei's music scene. Raised in Taipei, Taiwan, he has a deep interest in funk and soul, and his musical expertise spans Disco, Funk, Soul, Nu-Soul, Lounge, House, Urban and Smooth Jazz.
Louis has worked in radio DJing since 2000, including programmes such as PartyZone and Back to the 80's on Hit FM Taipei, FM 91.7 and FM 107.7. At the time of publication, he was the resident DJ for the weekly program on POP Radio FM 91.7 Taipei each Saturday.
His appearances in Taiwan have included Ce la Vie Taipei, Barcode and The Den Taipei Amba Hotel. These venues represent different settings within his DJ career.
Louis's selections draw on his interest in art and the atmosphere of a venue. His work has also taken in Ximending Taipei, Grand Hyatt Hotel Taipei, W Hotel Taipei, WooBar/WetBar and Smexy Taipei.
His guest appearance places a Taipei-based selector within Bicycle Corporation's Roots programme. The tracklist moves through classic recordings, reworks and later edits without losing its focus on groove.

Tom Tom Club's Genius of Love, from the FRANTZWEYMOUTH Tom Tom Catalog, follows with its confirmed Alternative character before C. Da Afro's Your Angel Eyes on SpinCat Music brings in Indie Dance.
Chic's Thinking Of You in the Dimitri From Paris 2018 remaster and Patrice Rushen's Alkalino rework of Music of the Earth take the selection into Disco. Dr Packer's I Like Sunshine Summertime Edit and Ed Wizard's Feel Good Jam keep that edit-focused section in motion.
The S.O.S. Band's The Finest, released through Clarence Avant Catalog, introduces an R&B thread. Blaze's Atjazz remix of I Think Of You featuring Amira and Morlack's Let's Have a Good Time follow with contrasting rhythmic approaches.
Sylvia Striplin's Young Pulse rework of Give Me Your Love, issued through CDATA[Funky Mosquito Tributes Mixes (special dedications), centres the programme on Disco re-edits. Shalamar's Young Pulse rework of Take That to the Bank and Young Pulse's Don't YouKnow, Baby extend that theme.
Chuggin Edits' Billy Whizz on Alpaca Edits returns to Nu-Disco, while Mather & Kingdon's Nigel Lowis All Night Mix of Soul Night on Disco, Soul, Gold revisits R&B. That Needs An Edit's Strange Sensation, also on Alpaca Edits, closes this passage with another edit-led Nu-Disco cut.
Dr Packer's Oh What Wow!! on DiscoDat and FabioLous Barker's Don't Turn Around on Disco Fruit bring Funk into the final stretch. Johnny Hammond's Fantasy in the Faze Action '79 Disco Edit, released on Juno, introduces House Music before Rayko's So In Love, Aeroplane's Love On Hold, Disco Funk Spinner's Too Much Grease and Cerrone's Reflex Revision of Hooked on You bring the show to its close.
