Bicycle Corporation announce DJ Neil for Foundations 04

Bicycle Corporation announced DJ Neil as the guest for Foundations 04 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter, as well as a music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.

Bicycle Corporation is an Italian duo comprising DJ and producer Marco MEI and Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. In the early 1990s, Marco began DJing and producing while organising events throughout Italy with the Urban People crew.

That work brought Marco recognition, a residency at Pacha, and international DJ bookings that took him around the world. Bicycle Corporation formed in 2009, bringing Marco's DJ experience together with Stefano's musical background.

Born and raised in Torino, Italy, Stefano showed an aptitude for music from childhood and studied classical piano, percussion and drums with commitment. He loved Chopin and West African djembe, while the sight of a DJ rallying a crowd increasingly drew him towards electronic music.

As electronic beats remained difficult to find on Italian radio during the 1990s, Stefano saw them as the beginning of a new musical chapter. Bicycle Corporation have released a Hard Techno remix of Virus D.D.Ds' track Origination, which was featured in Beatport staff picks.

Guest DJ Neil.

This week's guest is DJ Neil, NEIL was born and raised in Taiwan but left for study in Scotland in 1996 when electronic music was booming in Europe. He started his career as a DJ shortly after his return from Scotland in 2000.

His initial inspiration was from Ricardo Villalobos and following this was an exploration of electronic music genres such as Progressive House, Techno, and Tech House. Whenever the opportunity arises he prefers to perform an all Vinyl set, and for today's show he graces the wheels of steel.

At his last big event in Taiwan last year he shared the decks with Marco Bailey and hopes to continue gracing the turntables with acclaimed artists as well as promoting his own nights.

DJ Neil opens Foundations Episode 4 with Mark Broom’s “Outta Sight,” introducing Peak Time Techno before Linear System and Oscar Mulero take the programme into a deeper and more hypnotic form. Mulero appears twice in the opening stretch, alongside Selection Natural, Troy and MATRiXXMAN, establishing the stripped-back rhythmic character that dominates the set.

DisX3, Radial and Eric Fetcher move the programme further into Deep Techno, followed by Alexander Kowalski and another pair of DisX3 productions. Nørbak then appears before Planetary Assault Systems’ “Say It Loud,” with the latter belonging to the raw, deep and hypnotic techno category.

Planetary Assault Systems returns with “Bang Wap” after Nørbak’s “Collective Disbelief,” while Eric Fetcher and Jerome Search lead into the Deetron remix of Gaetano Parisio and Gaetek. The Blue Hour, Cleric and Vladimir Dubyshkin occupy another tightly focused Techno passage built around reduced arrangements, forceful drums and detailed electronic textures.

Cleric returns with “Luddite” before Grindvik, Planetary Assault Systems and Inland move into the later section of DJ Neil’s set. Setaoc Mass contributes “Technique” and “Inferno,” two tracks firmly associated with raw, deep and hypnotic techno, with D.Dan appearing between and after them through “Surfacing” and “Vaults.”

DisX3’s fourth appearance precedes Jack Master before Marco Faraone brings the set back towards peak-time techno with “Want Me.” Mark Broom, Arkan, Lohlein and Unbalance complete Foundations Episode 4, ending a programme overwhelmingly centred on deep, raw and hypnotic techno rather than a broad range of electronic genres.
