Marco Mei publishes playlist for 2021 Podcast 25

DJ Marco Mei presents 2021 Podcast 25 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an English-language electronic music radio station, DJ agency, music-news platform and promoter connecting audiences across Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Sri Lanka and beyond.

Italy's Marco Mei has spent more than three decades developing a sound rooted in afrobeat, funk and early synthesised music. Those influences have shaped a DJ and producer whose selections are not confined to a single genre or era.

His path took him from the Italian club circuit to a residency at Pacha Club in Sharm-El-Sheikh, which set the stage for an international career. Woo Bar, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk feature among the venues he has played.

Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon, Sander Kleinenberg, Harry Choo Choo Romero, Justin Berkmann and Funk D'Void are among those Marco has appeared alongside. His work has brought him into contact with club communities across Europe and Asia.

Bicycle Corporation, the project he runs with Stefano Ugliano, known as 6884, has been active since 2009. First signed to 17:44 Records, the duo's output spans more than fifty tracks and remixes on labels including Alchemy, Miniatures, WL77, GrooveTraxx, Suka and Revox.

Their earliest recordings are available through Bandcamp for those wanting to go back to the beginning. The partnership brings Marco's DJ experience together with Stefano's work as a producer.

Marco is based in Taipei and has built a solid presence across South East Asia through years of regular appearances in the region. Find him on Facebook and book him through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency.

His weekly broadcasts for the Scientific Sound Asia radio station sit alongside his work within the wider South East Asian electronic music network. The selection in this episode brings together contemporary club material and older records in edited forms.

Marco Mei's 2021 Podcast 25 opens with Anja Schneider's All I See in the 2021 Edit from Sous Music, placing the early section in a deeper house setting before J.T. Donaldson and Cpen's Take U Back in the D.J. T Edit on Get Physical Music establishes a House Music pulse. James Curd's Say Less Not More featuring Bear Who in the Stefano Ritteri Remix and House Syndicate's Jam The Mace in Jerome Sydenham's Teknoid Rendition lead into Mano Le Tough's As If To Say on CircoLoco Records, the first of the episode's Melodic House and Techno entries.

Tini's What If, Then What featuring Amiture and DJ Tennis's Atlanta on Life and Death hold the middle section close to House Music before Adana Twins's Alone on Watergate Records introduces Tech House. Famou$ After Dead's Do You Fuck To Get High then precedes Röyksopp's What Else Is There in the ARTBAT Remix on Dog Triumph, giving the set an Electronica-inflected melodic turn.

Musumeci and Lehar's Bells Of Freedom on Diynamic makes another appearance across the series, while Faithless's Insomnia 2021 in the Maceo Plex Epic Mix brings the episode's most recognisable vocal to the fore. The 1995 Trance anthem is recontextualised within a contemporary progressive framework before Morttagua and Ubbah's Blue Enigma featuring Eleonora in the Stereo Express Remix on Timeless Moment returns to melodic club pressure.

Alinka's Round & Round on Rekids restores a direct House Music feel, after which Phil Kieran's Scream on Maeve adds a Peak Time Techno edge. Acid Jerks's Monsters featuring Fuzzy Cufflinxxx on MFF (Music For Freaks) and Claude VonStroke's Flubblebuddy on DIRTYBIRD push the rhythm through Acid House and Tech House, before Ammara's Acid Fantasy on Trick increases the intensity.

Marcel Dettmann's Command on sspb018 brings raw, deep and hypnotic Techno into the late stretch, followed by Radio Slave's Live My Life on Rekids. Spencer Parker's Radio Waves (After Dark), also on Rekids, introduces an Indie Dance angle before the set settles back towards Deep House textures.

Confidential Recipe's What You Think on RSPX and Nic Fanciulli's Werk (Move Your Body) on Rekids bring the final contemporary run back to raw Techno and House Music. S-Express's Theme From S-Express in the Disconet Edit then closes the main body of the podcast as a 1988 Nu-Disco and House classic, while Cola Boy's 7 Ways To Love in the Hot Tracks Remix ends the episode with its Balearic character intact.
