Coh-hul has published his playlist for his new ‘Play It Loud’ 15

Coh-hul presents Play It Loud episode 15 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform serving China, Vietnam, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and a growing global audience.

Coh-hul is an established DJ and producer based in Ho Chi Minh City and has been a core artist on our DJ agency roster for several years. His breakthrough moment came with a major New Year’s Eve party in Northern Thailand in 2015, and since then he has impressed crowds with both his musical selections and energetic approach behind the decks.

His predominant genres are Tech House and Tech Funk, shaped by his long-standing admiration for labels such as Dirtybird, This Ain’t Bristol, Relief, Snatch! and Perfect Driver. His sets lean heavily on funky drum patterns, weighty basslines and futuristic sci-fi influenced melodies, while one of his strengths is knowing exactly when to push the energy and when to hold back, giving the crowd space before lifting them again.

Based in Saigon for the last four and a half years, he has hosted his own Tech House nights and brought a string of wild parties to the city. Visitors to Ho Chi Minh City may have caught him at one of his many residencies, with the monthly AfterDark event co-hosted with Broma: Not A Bar standing out as a firm favourite.

He is also a DJ member of the DTOX party brand and has been involved with WHAT? Events and Scientific Sound Asia events. Across the city he has performed at The Lighthouse, Saigon Soul Pool Party, Piu Piu, Upper Saigon, Hideout, Last Call, Indika, Saigon Outcast and Rogue, among many others.

Outside Saigon, he has appeared at The Mui Ne Music and Arts Festival and at The Rock Island Club on Phu Quoc Island for New Year’s Eve. His admiration for Dirtybird Records led him to travel solo to the Dirtybird Campout in the United States in 2017.

During that trip, he set up a renegade party at Venice Beach in Los Angeles and performed at Stacy’s at Melrose in Phoenix, Arizona. The following summer brought one of his biggest shows to date at Le Chapiteau in Marseille, where he played to a sold-out crowd and delivered what he still considers one of the best sets of his career.

In recent years, he has invested heavily in production equipment, built his own studio and shifted his focus towards releasing original music. His long-term aim is to secure releases on respected labels and build his reputation as both a producer and DJ.

His previous show spotlighted the House of Hustle label, delivering a powerful selection of its signature heavy-hitting tracks. For this episode, the show is dedicated to Be One Records.

Be One is run by Miguel Bastida and Ruiz DB, two highly respected artists in the underground Techno and Tech House scenes. Both are from Granada in Spain and are recognised as leading figures in their country’s electronic music community.

The label focuses on groove-led, energetic tracks with strong bass elements and has featured artists such as Ekoboy, Mr Jefferson, Roxy Delgado, Luke Nash, Arzenic, Waitz, Salero, Ukka, Victor Vera, The Freak Factory, Marc Throw and Adam Stacks alongside the label owners themselves. This episode presents a selected mix of Be One’s work, followed by a session of Coh-hul’s favourites.

Coh-hul’s Play It Loud episode 15 opens with Miguel Graca and Ladybird’s All I Wanna Do in Mg’s Vibedub form on Viva Recordings, bringing a warm Deep House tone. Cajmere’s So Happy on Cajual/Bandcamp and Daniel Steinberg’s Out Of Nowhere on Arms & Legs follow with House Music swing and another deep house touch.

Sunju Hargun and Forrest’s No Futuro on Viva Limited, Riky Ild’s Sink The Pink on Klaphouse Records and Aleksei Kuscow’s Davaybezdavay on Bandcamp sharpen the rhythm, with the latter adding Electro detail. NightFunk’s Wonderland on Black Book Records and The Streets and Chris Lorenzo’s Walker & Royce remix of Take Me As I Am on Sixty6music then carry the set towards a firmer club focus.

Little Fritter’s 100% Tapped on Catch & Release introduces the tougher middle section before Vladimir Dubyshkin’s Lady Of The Night on Trip brings Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) pressure. Miguel Bastida’s N.E.T. (Go Dancing) on Sink Or Swim, Jamie Jones and Harvy Valencia’s Electric Mama on Hottrax, and Hutchtastic’s Wiggle Jiggle on Plump Records establish the rolling Tech House character.

Arnold and Lane’s Dinky Whale and Steve Darko and Nik Thrine’s Droids, both on Dirtybird, retain the buoyant low-end weight before Mihalis Safras and Green Velvet’s Speak To Me on Relief Records completes the first section. The Be One Records portion starts with Marc Throw’s La Prueba and Lauren Benavente’s Simplificando, while Waitz’s One More introduces a more forceful Peak Time Techno edge.

Miguel Bastida’s Kicker Machine and Robot Beauty and The Missile’s Adam Stacks remix of So Wack, both from Be One Records, return the emphasis to clipped percussion and bass-led Tech House. Luke Nash and Arzenic’s Front 2 Back, Miguel Bastida’s Square Beat and Victor Vera’s Tristese follow on the same label, with Vera’s record bringing back Peak Time Techno tension.

Ekoboy’s Happy Dance, Mr Jefferson’s Get That, The Freak Factory’s Tornado and Roxy Delgado’s Brown Sugar keep Be One Records at the centre of the late-session groove. Miguel Bastida and Joker 420’s I Güana Get High, Ukka’s All The Same, Salero’s Sunar, Miguel Bastida’s Moudness and his closing El Himno finish the episode with Tech House momentum and a final Peak Time Techno lift.
