DJ Marco Mei presents episode 15 of his 2021 radio series on Scientific Sound Asia. Marco Mei is an Italian DJ and producer whose thirty-year career traces back to a deep affection for afrobeat, funk and the early days of synthesised music. Those formative influences set him apart from the moment he began DJing in Italy in the early 1990s, giving his sets a character that has carried through regardless of venue or context.
His international trajectory took shape through a residency at Pacha Club in Sharm-El-Sheikh, which set the template for a touring schedule spanning Woo Bar, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk. Shared bills with Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon, Sander Kleinenberg, Harry Choo Choo Romero, Justin Berkmann and Funk D'Void reflect the level at which he has consistently operated.
Bicycle Corporation, his ongoing production alliance with Stefano Ugliano, known as 6884, got its start in 2009 through 17:44 Records and has since placed material on Alchemy, Miniatures, WL77, GrooveTraxx, Suka and Revox. The duo revisited their earliest work, making those tracks available through their Bandcamp page alongside a body of work that extends to over fifty releases across deep house, tech house, French house and techno.
His Taipei base keeps him embedded in the Southeast Asian circuit, where regular appearances have built lasting connections with artists and promoters across the region. Audiojack and Jem Cooke's Feels Good brings Tech House energy before Masters At Work's Mattel arrives as a classic House anchor, the New York duo's presence giving the set a moment of genuine genre history. Gianluca Pegoiani and Ann Saunderson's Numero 5 (Rough Ride) on Rebirth follows, Ann Saunderson's vocal, she is the wife of Detroit legend Kevin Saunderson, lending the track a Soulful House and Detroit warmth.
Djoko's Catching Up With Leeloo and Fouk's Don't You Want To Boogie carry the set through a deeper, more groove-led mid-section before Nikki O's Bigger and Felix Da Housecat and Chris Trucher's I Discover sustain the House direction. Martøm's Fallin In Love introduces a Deep House and Nu Jazz quality before Jungle Fire's Culebro in the Black Science Orchestra Remix delivers one of the most genre-distinct selections of the show, its Afrobeat and Funk character sitting apart from the surrounding House selections.
Jodie Harsh's My House in the 10 Years Of Eats Everything Main Street Mix and Rob Martini's Thank You carry the set forward before Daft Punk's Revolution 909 in the Don't Blink Remix recontextualises the 1997 French house classic within a contemporary Tech House framework. T E S T P R E S S's Dialupdilemma and Eli Brown's My House sustain the Tech House direction before R.E.A.D, Ancient Deep, Red Eye and Dear Jane's Where's My Phone and Studio Apartment's Sun Ra Was Right in the Kususa Remix bring Afro House energy back to the set.
Mallin's Off My Mind and Fred Again and The Blessed Madonna's Marea (We've Lost Dancing) return for another appearance across the series, before Maya Jane Coles's Piano Magic introduces a Deep House and Melodic House quality in the closing stretch. Fire Island and Loleatta Holloway's Shout To The Top appears in two consecutive versions, Hifi Sean's Reprise and the Extended Rework Monster Edit, giving the show's final section a deliberate and celebratory energy before The Shapeshifters and Teni Tinks's You Ain't Love in the Club Mix closes the episode on a Soulful House note.
