Anonymous Z presents Not So Anonymous episode 38 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Anonymous Z is mostly revered in Saigon, Vietnam, for pioneering Mad Circus parties. He was also the organiser of Bahrain's first underground DJ collective, Glassroom.
Leading a collection of misfits from different nationalities, he organised legal parties, after-parties and occasional renegade events that became part of local nightlife folklore. His motto then was "They tried to bury us, but they forgot we were seeds".
As part of the Banana Hustle crew's tropical events in Ho Chi Minh City, he helped develop its distinctive atmosphere. Originally a Techno head, he developed a taste for digging out distinctive Afro, House, Disco and Funk records.
His selections combine hand-picked Techno with up-to-date Indie Dance. His skills as a disc jockey opened the doors to prominent Vietnamese underground venues, including Arcan, The Lighthouse, Broma and Vitamin D after-parties.
His non-linear sets are often improvised and shaped by the crowd, moving through genres with tense, groovy basslines and melodic storytelling. He explores world music and early electro while defining his approach over time.
Some sets are trippy, dark and downtempo, with tribal and South American influences, while others favour darker Leftfield Electro infused with Indie Dance, Nu Disco, Electroclash, New Wave, Wave, New Beat and Dark Wave. It was in the underground scenes of the Middle East and Vietnam that he developed his taste for dark, hypnotic rhythms, ethnic textures, epic synths, tense basslines and percussive impact on the dancefloor.
Anonymous Z's Not So Anonymous episode 38 opens with Rodion and Local Suicide's Owl & Wizzle, featuring Mz Sunday Luv, on Multi Culti, before Javier Martínez and Undefined Pattern's Two Mamarrachos remix of Sorcity for Nein Records. Mijo and Justine Forever's Exist-Ence follows on Ombra International, establishing an Indie Dance direction from the outset.
Flxxx's Juan Soto remix of Exodo on Nein Records brings a more forceful Peak Time Techno edge, followed by Damon Jee's remix of Force Majeure's Overawed for Sulk Magic. Ernestas Sadau's Vilnius Brigade on Pinkman then returns to Indie Dance territory with a concise club-focused feel.
Jennifer Touch's Sell, remixed by Curses for Riotvan, extends the darker character before Middle Sky Boom and Eliezer's Bias Boys appears on La dame Noir Records. Auxiliary Tha Masterfader's Severino mix of Dark Side Of The Disco, released through Nein Records, keeps the selection rooted in angular Indie Dance rhythms.
Javier Martínez's City Chaos on Nein Records leads into Adam Ten and Mosko (IL)'s Mufti remix of Shadow Way on Hosted. New Hook's Sexergy for Ombra International and Curses' Djedjotronic remix of Surrender on Dischi Autunno sustain the set's shadowed electronic mood.
Llewellyn's Remote Scope on Riotvan precedes Skatebård's remix of Simian Mobile Disco's Hustler on Interscope Records, bringing House Music into the later stretch. Massimiliano Pagliara's If I Try To Forget I Miss You Even More on Ostgut Ton then introduces a warmer Deep House passage.
Kamizi's Modulaire remix of Gem Sweat on La Volta Ros restores Peak Time Techno pressure before Roe Deers' Cornelius Doctor and Tushen Rai remix of Detective Stories & Roller on The Magic Movement brings the house-focused material back into view. Neil Landstrumm closes with Your Life on Moustache Records, ending the programme with a sharp Breaks finish.
