Coh-hul presents Play It Loud episode 13 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Coh-hul is an established DJ and producer based in Ho Chi Minh City, and he has been a core member of the Scientific Sound Asia DJ Agency for several years. His breakthrough came at a New Year’s Eve event in Northern Thailand in 2015, after which he built a reputation for energetic performances and tightly constructed sets.
His sound centres on Tech House and Tech Funk, with inspiration drawn from Dirtybird, This Ain’t Bristol, Relief, Snatch! and Perfect Driver. Punchy drums, rolling bass lines and science-fiction-influenced motifs shape his sets, alongside an ability to judge when to raise the pace or hold it back for the room.
As a long-term Saigon resident, Coh-hul has hosted several Tech House nights and drawn lively crowds across the city. Visitors to Ho Chi Minh City may know him through his residencies, particularly AfterDark, the monthly party he co-hosts with Broma at Not A Bar.
His work with DTOX, WHAT? Events and Scientific Sound Asia has made him a familiar presence in the city’s nightlife, with appearances at The Lighthouse, Saigon Soul Pool Party, Piu Piu, Upper Saigon, Hideout, Last Call, Indika, Saigon Outcast and Rogue. Beyond Saigon, he has played the Mui Ne Music and Arts Festival and The Rock Island Club on Phu Quoc for New Year’s Eve.
His appreciation of Dirtybird took him to the United States in 2017 to attend Dirtybird Campout, where he also hosted a renegade party on Venice Beach. During that trip he played Stacy’s at Melrose in Phoenix, Arizona, and in 2018 he delivered a set at Le Chapiteau in Marseille for a sold-out crowd.
Over the previous two years, Coh-hul acquired production equipment, built a studio and began a new musical undertaking. His aim was to develop his production skills and release music through established labels alongside his DJ work.
Later releases include the 2024 EP Additive Magic, alongside the singles Cosmo, No Cup, Bad Birds and Skinny Bodje for labels including NastyFunk Records and Qwerk. He has also issued Bandcamp edits and tracks such as Tim Maia - Sossego (Coh-hul Edit) in April 2024 and Papi in February 2023, as well as the albums La Buena and Bad&B // Walk_Talk.
The article records a farewell party in Saigon scheduled for 6 December 2025 as he prepared to relocate to Brazil and preview music from the album Papai Chegou (Daddy’s Home). It also notes a July 2025 guest set at Hanoi Community Radio and an appearance at Bam’s House Party on 4 December 2025.
His preceding programme focused on Trippy Ass Technologies and presented a bass-focused selection from the label’s catalogue. Episode 13 turns to My Techno Weighs A Ton, pairing its material with tracks from Dirtybird and allied club labels, while recalling Dirtybird’s distinctive character since its 2005 founding.
Coh-hul’s Play It Loud episode 13 opens with Sound Support’s Clavi On The Rocks on House Of Disco Records and Snowk featuring J.O.Y.’s I’m Lost (Crackazat Remix) on Spirit Soul Music. Nala’s Sun Is Hot introduces Deep House through Dirtybird, before Mike McFly’s Merecida on House Of Hussle and Steve Darko’s Oohs And Arps on Dirtybird bring in Melodic House and Techno detail.
Contribe’s Feel Like on Oknf Records follows with Steady Rock’s Blast Your Radio, then Cour T.’s Louvre Love and Nala’s Psychic Attack return to Dirtybird’s club-focused approach. Shiba San’s Do Your Thang on Repopulate Mars, Ekoboy’s WE on Hot Fuss and Arnold & Lane’s Sippin’ Bangs on Dumb Fat Records push the set towards heavier low-end pressure.
The Sponges’ Jerry Brain on Box Of Cats brings Bass House into focus, recalling the label’s late-2010s irreverence, before Ekoboy’s Satisfaction on Talk Of The Town raises the energy again. Pezzner’s Saint Andre (Ardalan Remix) on Get Physical Music nods to Pezzner’s 2000s Seattle connections, while Claude VonStroke’s Monster Island on Dirtybird gives way to Reginald’s Creaky Floor and Robbie Rivera’s Cooking Good, the latter bringing Funky House to the transition.
The My Techno Weighs A Ton section develops through The Cook, The Thief’s Together, Enky Jane’s Induction and Strictly Bizness & Dipzy’s Robosoul, all leaning into the label’s direct club rhythm. Sammy Legs’ 4th Dimension, informed by 2010s UK club styles, leads to NiQW’s Flaming Hot and Enky Jane’s Brain Damage, where Peak Time Techno supplies the set’s harder edge.
Stuuks follows with Too Much Bass, then Chick Iverson’s Umm... interrupts the pressure with a more playful rhythmic idea. Stuuks’ West, Middath’s The Jam and Elternhaus’ Bade Bush keep the My Techno Weighs A Ton material moving through stripped-back club forms.
Tewax’s Need and Arnold & Lane’s Shaeke rebuild the momentum before D-Tek’s In The Front brings the tougher rhythmic focus back to the foreground. Dipsy & Takshak’s Issa Vibe precedes Alex Index’s Sign Language, which closes on House Music and leaves the programme with a measured final release.
