Bicycle Corporation present Roots episode 73 with guest DJ Terence C on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter that also operates a music-news platform for audiences across Asia and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is the Italian partnership of DJ and producer Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Together, they have released more than 50 original productions and remixes across House Music and Techno.
Marco began DJing in the early 1990s, drawn to emerging electronic music and Afrocentric music. He subsequently helped organise House Music and Techno events throughout Italy with the Urban People collective.
His work behind the decks led to a residency at Pacha in Egypt, which brought wider recognition and international bookings. Marco is based in Taipei, works across a broader South East Asian network and is available for bookings through the Marco Mei DJ profile.
Born and raised in Torino, Stefano showed an early aptitude for music and studied classical piano, percussion and drums. His interests ranged from Chopin to West African djembe traditions.
As his musical interests broadened, Stefano became fascinated by the electronic DJs commanding a crowd. The electronic beats that were difficult to hear on Italian radio during the 1990s opened a new chapter in his life.
Marco and Stefano have also revisited some of their earlier tracks and established a Bandcamp page to distribute them. Their weekly Roots programme provides a space for artists based in Asia whose Afrocentric foundations have informed their electronic music work.
For this edition, Malaysian DJ and producer Terence C joins the pair with a House Music and Techno-focused selection. Based in Shanghai, he has more than two decades of experience and has played an important role in Kuala Lumpur's House and Techno scene.
Terence C has appeared alongside David Morales, Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong and John Digweed, and has professional history connected with Zouk Kuala Lumpur. His guest contribution brings that regional experience to Roots 73.

This week’s guest is Malaysian DJ and producer Terence C, one of the most solid figures in the industry and currently based in Shanghai, China. After more than twenty years as a resident DJ in some of Kuala Lumpur’s biggest clubs and venues, Terence has established himself as one of the Gems of Malaysia’s House Music and Techno scene.
Throughout his career, Terence has warmed up for some of the biggest names in music. Artists like David Morales, Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong and many others have come on stage to find and found the crowd pumping after Terence has worked the platters. Some big hitters have even personally requested Terence as their opening act.
As a testament to his skills behind the decks, Terence has long been the first choice of Digweed when he plays In KL. The two of them have performed together many a time and have played a vital part in making Malaysia’s iconic Zouk the world-renowned club brand it is today.
Terence is spearheading monthly Techno events at Zouk entitled, ‘We Love Techno’ along with one of KL’s biggest payers, DJ XU. We Love Techno will focus on more underground sounds like those of labels like Drumcode, Cocoon Recordings and many more.
Launching his career in 1998 as a disciple of DJ Chris Doss, he became better established on the music scene by gaining residencies at venues like Cubeat and Globar. There was never any doubt he was going to go places but a major break for this young talent was landing a warm-up gig for the esteemed David Morales for his first-ever Malaysian show.
Terence was a resident DJ at the seminal Movement Club at the turn of the century, thus securing himself as a leading figure in the history of Malaysia’s electronic music scene. He has since been present across the city wherever those sounds have thrived, including venues like Backroom, Nouvo and Atmosphere.
Terence has not only made his mark in Malaysia but across Southeast Asia too, with performances at Lush, Singapore and Liquid, Ho Chi Minh City. In 2005, Terence and artists Callen Tham and Digital launched a new audio-visual collective known as Altered Image, which went way beyond anything seen before.
Altered Image combined cinematic visuals, turntable beats and Live FX, producing mixes that were way ahead of their time yet remained true to their origin of the dance floor.
After coming top of the Malaysian heats of the Heineken Thirst competition that year, the three went on tour across Southeast Asia as Altered Image, picking up a new fan base as they toured.
Since then, Terence has remained a leading figure in technical innovation and in more recent times mastered the Ableton Live production suit. He now plays live seats using the software as well as traditional decks and CDJs.
Terence C is now emerging with his production work and audiences can expect a flood of new releases in the coming year, not to mention a growing presence across Southeast Asia. With a reputation as one of Malaysia’s top DJs, Terence C is well on his way to becoming a prominent figure in the Asian electronic music scene thus his House Music and Techno radio show on our station.

Aaaron and Deckert's Archipel on Frau Blau brings in Afro House elements before Steve Bug and Langenberg's Emphasizer returns to Poker Flat Recordings. Lopezhouse then takes the programme towards Indie Dance with Sunburst on Bedrock Records.
Robert Babicz's BOg remix of Utopia on Systematic Recordings restores the melodic emphasis. Khen's A Hero on Vivrant introduces Organic House textures before BAILE's Visage arrives via Last Night On Earth.
Alex Niggemann's Technology on Aeon and AFFKT's Melabufa on Mobilee Records extend the Indie Dance passage. Apsara's Simply Red on Monaberry then turns back towards melodic material, followed by Kadosh's Footprints on Frau Blau.
Oliver Koletzki and Niko Schwind bring another Organic House moment through Acceptance on A Tribe Called Kotori. Santiago Garcia's Clock on Human By Default and Super Flu and Angelov's Erq on Monaberry return the focus to the episode's melodic foundation.
EdOne's Freedom on Bedrock Records and Angelov's Tesera on Frau Blau lead into Petar Dundov and Gregor Tresher's Palladium on SCI+TEC, the programme's Peak Time Techno point. Township Rebellion's Plastic World on Rose Avenue and Bicep featuring Clara La San's Saku on Ninja Tune bring the set to its close.
