Marco Mei presents his 26 December 2020 show on Scientific Sound Asia, with a selection spanning club-focused electronic music. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Marco is an Italian DJ and producer with more than three decades of experience behind the decks. His formative musical interests included Afrobeat, Reggae, Funk, Disco, early Hip Hop and electronic music.
He began DJing in Turin in the early 1990s and developed his craft through festivals and clubs in Italy and abroad. His appearances have included sets alongside Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon and Sander Kleinenberg.
A residency at Pacha Club in Sharm El-Sheikh during the early 2000s provided an important international platform. Marco subsequently played at OBS in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, CE' LA VI in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, Woobar in Bali and Global Dance Moscow.
In 2009, Marco formed Bicycle Corporation with producer Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. The duo has made more than 50 tracks and remixes together.
Their productions have attracted attention within house music, while Marco moved to Taipei in the early 2010s and regularly played clubs and venues across the city. Based in Taipei, he works across a wider South East Asian network through clubs, events and regional electronic music activity.
Marco is available for bookings through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency, and his weekly programme is broadcast through its radio station. His selections draw on Deep House, Tech House, Afro House, Melodic Techno, Nu-Disco, Indie Dance, Electronica and Techno.
Marco Mei's 26 December 2020 show opens with Mr Oizo and Carmen Castro's Two Takes It on Ed Banger Records / Because Music, bringing a leftfield edge to the first record. Fine Young Cannibals follow with the Dimitri From Paris remix of She Drives Me Crazy on I.R.S. Records, shifting into dance-pop material.
Mijo's Roma Mio Amore on Melomana introduces Nu-Disco before New Order's Maceo Plex Remix Edit of Be A Rebel on Mute turns towards House Music. Mr. G's Ease Ya Mind in the Mango Boys Dub then settles into Deep House.
DJ Qness and Dele Sosimi's Monkey Safari Groove Mix of L'owè L'owè leads into Pachanga Boys' John Cosani remix of Time. M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade featuring Laurie Anderson bring the Sis remix of O Superman on Get Physical Music into Jamie Jones and Harvy Valencia's Kwik-E on Hottrax, establishing a Tech House passage.
Demuir's AhhHurrrWeGoAgain on elrow Music returns the sequence to House Music, before Deeper Purpose's Elevate on Catch & Release brings back Tech House. Innellea and Kevin de Vries then appear with Mondfinsternis, followed by Steve Angello's Teasing Mr. Charlie on SIZE Records, an Electronica entry.
The Deepshakerz keep the club rhythm in place with Turn It Out on Voltaire Music, while Azzido Da Bass's Sammy Porter re-edit of Dooms Night and Zombie Nation's BC edit of Kernkraft 400 raise the intensity. Kelis's BC edit of Milkshake precedes Bob Moses and Zhu's Charlotte de Witte Extended Remix of Desire, before DJ Hell's Tonstrom on The DJ Hell Experience returns to Deep House.
Étienne de Crécy's Prix Choc in Roys Love 4 Paris and Llorca's River Ram re-interpretation of My Precious Thing, Piano lead into a reprise of Fine Young Cannibals' She Drives Me Crazy and Mijo's Roma Mio Amore. New Order's Be A Rebel, Mr. G's Ease Ya Mind and the returning DJ Qness and Dele Sosimi mix bring the programme back through house-rooted and deep club material.
The final run revisits Pachanga Boys' Time, M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade's O Superman, Jamie Jones and Harvy Valencia's Kwik-E, Demuir's AhhHurrrWeGoAgain and Deeper Purpose's Elevate. Innellea and Kevin de Vries return with Mondfinsternis, while Steve Angello's Teasing Mr. Charlie, The Deepshakerz' Turn It Out, DJ Hell's Tonstrom and Llorca's My Precious Thing, Piano close the sequence.
