El Brujo presents El Brujo and the Wild Bunch episode 11 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music radio station, music-news platform and promoter for listeners across Asia and beyond.
El Brujo, whose real name is Robert Milanesi, was born in Italy in the 1960s and developed an early interest in music. By the beginning of the 1990s, he had become associated with Bologna’s underground rave scene and was regarded as one of its pioneering figures.
His first official release was Warriors, issued in 2008 through the Milan-based label Open Legs. Two years later, Jambalay Records launched with an opening party at Club Geminis in Ibiza harbour.
El Brujo and the label gained wider attention when Maya Jane Coles included one of their tracks in her February 2011 chart. The track, Mozambique, was a collaboration with Big Mojo and also appeared on his first physical CD release, Nutty Fellas Are Go.
The Jambalay Records catalogue documents part of the output connected with El Brujo and the label. This period helped extend his profile beyond the Italian underground and into a wider international electronic music audience.
In 2019, Plastic Dreams, originally released on Frame Workxx, reached number 33 in Beatport’s Hard Techno Top 100. El Brujo has also released music through Elektrax, LW Recordings, Subwoofer, Berlin After Dark, Music Is The Drug, Gobekli Tepe, Fortwin Rec, Bunker, Mad Rhythm, SE7ENS and Physical Techno.
His productions take a raw and experimental approach across the different electronic styles he works with. That direction has remained a consistent part of his identity as a producer and DJ.
The programme features a monthly guest drawn from El Brujo’s Wild Bunch network of Techno producers and artists. Episode 11 instead brings together promos and tracks from established collaborators and artists connected with his wider circle.
Guest DJ Gianni Piras (second hour)
This show’s guest is Gianni Piras, an Italian DJ and producer born in Rome in 1969. He began DJing in the late 1980s and worked in clubs across Rome and the surrounding area until 2003.
Between 1992 and 1996, Gianni also worked with several radio stations in the Italian capital. His most notable collaborations from that period included Mix FM and Power Station.
In 1996, he joined a group of DJ friends and colleagues to release four productions through The Elite, a sub-label of Zac Records, and Dangerous, a sub-label of Dig It International. These early releases marked his first formal steps into recorded electronic music.
After a long break from production, Gianni returned in 2015 and started releasing again through El Brujo’s Jambalay Records and CBJ. His output during this period included both original tracks and remixes.
He later released further remixes through labels including Gobekli Tepe, Serapis, Frame Workxx Records and Kattivo Records. These projects extended his catalogue while keeping him connected with the wider Techno community around those labels.
Gianni also remained active in radio and currently works with the web-based stations United Techno Familia Radio and You Mix Radio. His guest appearance brings together experience drawn from club performances, radio broadcasting and several decades of electronic music production.
El Brujo opens the first hour with “Asimmetric,” produced with Kiril Melkonov, before Andry Verx, Calcast and Pier Giorgio Marini establish a dark Techno foundation. DJ Hoffa and Henry MWNN Lobbs keep the set moving through deeper material before Damaged Man pushes the middle section into a more severe underground direction.
Francesco Conti’s “Acid Game” introduces the clearest Acid Techno moment of the first hour before Makaja Gonzales’ “Deep Into The Night” takes the mood deeper again. El Brujo closes with “Times Of Change,” finishing an hour that moves between dark, deep and tougher techno without straying far from its central sound.
Gianni Piras begins the second hour with Kev Willis and Basscontroll before his remix of Jack Delhi and Reinoud Van Toledo adds a brighter club edge. El Brujo’s “Tres Cool” follows before Piras’ remix of “Tu Noche” pushes firmly into Peak Time Techno, raising the intensity in the middle of the hour.
“Soul Melody” in the Tenacious Soul Mix and “Overload” show the more melodic side of Gianni Piras, both leaning into Melodic House and Techno. His remix of DaCrazyFish’s “Mr. Anderson” sits in the same territory, giving this section a warmer contrast to the harder material around it.
Pier Giorgio Marini’s “Breakdown” in Francesco Conti’s remix leads into “The Depth Of The Deep,” bringing the hour back towards deeper and more forceful techno. “The Depth Of The Deep” gives the finish a strong peak-time push, closing Gianni Piras’ set with more weight than the melodic run that precedes it.
Across both hours, El Brujo concentrates on dark and underground techno while Gianni Piras works across peak-time, melodic and deeper material. That contrast gives Episode 11 a clear progression from the tougher first hour into a second half that opens up stylistically without losing its techno core.
