Gerard presented episode 49 of The Hit List on Scientific Sound Asia with a playlist and guest Takamasa Owaki. Scientific Sound Asia is an English-language electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Gerard is a DJ and producer from Florida, USA, whose productions span Deep House, Deep Tech, Tech House and Techno. His work has established him as a recognised figure within House music.
Gerard began as part of DeviceRATT with F.L.I. Records, where his interest in electronic music grew into a deep-seated commitment to the genre. He found his direction there, performing sets built around entrancing beats and sounds.
He performed across South Florida’s underground scene, including at Treehouse and Nocturnal. Positive reviews, sold-out shows and an expanding fan base followed.
In 2014, Gerard released his debut with Aerotek Records, beginning a growing presence on the electronic scene. Further releases with labels including Pure Pitch and LTHM strengthened that position.
Gerard also found success beyond the United States, securing residences at venues across East Asia. Through beats and performances for regional audiences, he repeated achievements from his home scene.
After building a large following and becoming a familiar name at venues, Gerard secured a prominent place on China’s music scene. When the pandemic struck, he returned to America after his success in the Far East, leaving a gap for many music lovers in the region.
Since returning to the States, Gerard has worked to wield his craft and perform for audiences. His growing fan base and international reach have secured his place in the music scene.

This week’s guest DJ, Takamasa Owaki, comes from Kamo-gun in Japan and brings an international background shaped by performances across South America. He began his DJ career through events in Colombia, Brazil and Ecuador before developing a wider club and hospitality portfolio.
His style centres on House, Nu-Disco and Tech House, supported by nearly two decades of musical experience. His professional profile also reflects influences from 1980s and 1990s electronic music, Disco and Rock, while Traxsource documents further work connected with his artist catalogue.
Takamasa was exposed to classical music from an early age through his father and later encountered a much broader range of styles while living abroad. At the age of 23, he moved to the United States for two years as an agricultural trainee, where Electronic music, Hip Hop, Reggae and Latin music helped shape his development as a DJ.
His career began on vinyl and later included resident positions at venues across the Middle East and South America. These included Lavista Nightclub at the InterContinental Hotel Doha, The Warehouse Wine & Tapas at Pearl Rotana Hotel Abu Dhabi, Impressions Lounge at Anantara Hotel Abu Dhabi, ToroToro at Etihad Towers Abu Dhabi and Hard Rock Cafe Bogotá.
After returning to Japan, Takamasa worked as a florist while continuing to gain experience behind the decks at cafes and bars. His selections broadened during this period to include Disco, Afro House, Psychedelic music and Ambient alongside a stronger focus on Deep House and Soulful House.
His Cactus Experience project brings these influences together through club-oriented selections and slower, more spacious material. Deep House, Soulful House and Chill Out form an important part of the project, giving Takamasa room to move between dancefloor-focused records and more relaxed electronic music.
This guest appearance provides a closer look at the range of music Takamasa has developed through years of international performance and listening. His mix combines the House foundations of his DJ work with the broader influences that have followed him through Japan, the Americas and the Middle East.
Takamasa Owaki opens the first hour of The Hit List Episode 49 with two of his own CactusExperience selections before Atjazz, Jullian Gomes and Jimpster bring in Deep House. Jimpster’s instrumental remix of “It’s My Time” is officially classified as deep house, setting up the warm and groove-led character of the first set.
Soul Central and Scott Diaz continue the house focus before Blake Reary’s “Step It Up” and Add2Basket’s “Road Show” broaden the section. Takamasa Owaki then returns with “I Have A Dream,” keeping his own edits and productions central to the first hour.
Fernando Picon introduces “Intro Nature” before Soulmagic’s Morten & Mikkel Extended Jam brings in Nu Disco. That 2020 Soulfuric version is officially classified as Nu Disco / Indie Dance, adding a funkier and more disco-oriented turn near the end of Takamasa Owaki’s set.
Lebedev’s “Deep Emotion” in Dan Corco’s remix closes the first hour after a selection centred principally on deep and soulful forms of House Music. The combination of Atjazz, Jimpster, Soul Central, Scott Diaz and Soulmagic gives the opening set a markedly different profile from Gerard’s tougher second hour.
Gerard begins with Lorenzo De Blanck’s “Rewind,” an officially classified Tech House release, before ANEK’s “My My My” continues in the same broad club direction. DHAF, Claudia Tejeda and J. Ventura maintain the groove before Tejeda returns with “Black Honey.”
Hector Couto’s “Mellow Burn,” Javi Lopez and Dompe keep tech house dominant through the closing section, with “Mellow Burn” and “Coke Power” both explicitly catalogued in that genre. Milkwish ends Episode 49 with “Mega Chord,” another confirmed tech-house track, completing Gerard’s hour with a much tighter and more percussive identity than Takamasa Owaki’s deep-house opening.
