Digital D presents the tracklist for his sixteenth guest show on Scientific Sound Asia, originally announced for 25 September 2020. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Digital D, real name DaTron King, is a DJ and producer from Louisiana who was raised in Texas, United States. Growing up, he played violin and cello for many years while listening to Motown with his parents, an experience that began his musical upbringing.
As a teenager, he did not have the means to obtain music or own a radio, but at 18 he began buying records and started to perform as a DJ. His formative DJ years began with Drum and Bass before he moved towards house music after hearing French DJ Bob Sinclair's album "Paradise."
He performed at venues across Dallas before relocating to Taipei, Taiwan, in 2008. After establishing himself there, he explored the nightlife and played major clubs and festivals in Taiwan while keeping his distance from mainstream venues.
He held a five-year Taipei residency, performing week in, week out. During the pandemic in 2020, he spent time at home and returned with a mix of mostly new 2020 material alongside a few older tracks.
The mix also included some of his latest releases, and he said that a major release with a Dutch label was due the following month. Digital D was available for bookings through Scientific Sound Asia's DJ agency and hoped for further bookings once the epidemic was under control.
He took a short break from producing to showcase new songs and return to the groove after coronavirus restrictions paused his residency. He hoped listeners would enjoy the show, wished them well, and encouraged support for local DJs and party scenes when people could gather again.
Digital D's sixteenth guest show, SSA Radio Podcast 443 opens in Deep House territory with Deepkeen's It's Cool on Different Attitudes and Deeplomatik's Deep Drop on Salted Music. George Kelly and Vaudafunk's Just Call My Name, followed by Miguel Migs' Lost Messages, keeps the early stretch rooted in Salted Music selections.
Digital D's Potential vs. Reality brings House Music into the programme through his Berimbolo Records release. Elisa Elisa's Drum Love and Simon Shaw's Juicy, both on Heat Up Music, lead into Maverick Sabre and Jorja Smith's Slow Down in the Vintage Culture and Slow Motion Extended Remix on SPINNIN' DEEP.
Jess Bays' Every Little Thing on Glasgow Underground follows with Extasié and Deportment's That Memory on TRANSA RECORDS. Max Chapman's Feels So Good on Resonance Records then extends the deep-house focus without breaking the set's measured club feel.
Jay Vegas brings Move That Body back to Salted Music before Sraga Bamuel's Just the Warm Up remix appears on Berimbolo Records. Kreature's La Coco on Resonance Records, Elisa Elisa's Get Down on Heat Up Music and DJ Wask and Betty's Infinity Love remix on DNW Records hold the middle portion in place.
Digital D revisits Potential vs. Reality on Berimbolo Records, after which Disclosure's Moonlight Extended Mix introduces an Electronica turn through Universal-Island Records Ltd. Adryiano's On My Side on Soul Notes then returns the programme to house-oriented material.
Dusky's Careless on Aus Music brings the later section back towards Deep House. Urulu and Steve Huerta's Let Me Off Easy on Dirt Crew Recordings, followed by Real Connoisseur's Faux De Baux on Purp & Soul, close the show with its original deep club focus intact.
